Hey all, Wifey and Niece got together and gave me a Garrett Pro Pointer for Christmas. I didn't really want it. (30 years I been diggin' without one..."I don't need no stinkin' pinpointer!") It's 50 degrees here and the Polar Vortex melt off left the ground just perfect for detecting, soft and damp as far down as you can dig.
I went to a close park I been hunting since the 80s just to test this stupid thing. First two signals were shallow and easy, but the third signal I got was one of those "might beep this time and might not beep the next time" nickle/tab disappearing signals at 5-6 inches...I personally hate those signals...So I pop out maybe a 4 inch plug and it's gone, it's not in the plug and it's not in the hole. Do I fill in the hole and move on? Or dig a hole big enough to bury a basketball and start scanning little hand fullys for who knows how long? And be there for ten minutes fixing the mess afterward.
So I stick the pinpointer in the hole and it starts zinging dead at the bottom of the hole! I reach in and scoop up some loose soil and squeeze it into a little clod, and sure enough pulled it out and saw the edge of a silver wartime nickle. Knew it was silver by the bright color. Hate to admit it but I love this thing. Next find was a '41 Wheatie, nearby the nickle at 6 inches, the Pro Pointer went right to it in the side of the hole. Third and fourth coins of 2014 are silver and wheatie.
...The only problem is I didn't get enough rest per dig. This really does reduce the recovery time, I may be too sore to get out of bed tomorrow, ended up diggin' till after dark, maybe 150 holes, got these two coins, close to 5 bucks in clad, and a pile of tabs and can slaw the size of a soft ball...Just love this ProPopinter after all!...HH everyone
