Hello Everyone,
Hope all of you are enjoying your Memorial Day weekend, and getting a little detecting time in.
I went out this morning to our "honey hole" for a few hours. I met DanaPointVal at the crack of dawn, and no more than 5 minutes after I arrive, my buddy, Mike (oknorom), surprised the both of us by showing up. So the three of us started to pound the area, swinging our coils (I stayed with my 8" Sunray) between hundreds of previous plugs in the ground. Right off the bat, I dug my first Injun, a 1900. Then the silver coins started to show. The highlight of my day came when I dug a very iffy and deep signal. At 9", I put my probe in the hole and hear a coin signal. My last scoop of dirt revealed a white-ish colored coin. A Barber!!! Yes!! I noticed on the barber there was a ring around it's face. I knew there was another coin that caused this. I rescanned my pile of dirt, and low and behold, another Barber dime!! This is a first for me!! You can tell by my second photo that the obverse of one dime was laying on top of the reverse of the other, and were protected from the elements. The other sides of the two coins were oxidized. After digging that "honey hole", I found a few more silvers and wheaties, ending my day with 6 silver coins, 2 Injuns (1900, 1906), along with 24 wheaties. I kept saying to myself on my drive home, "What a spot! What a spot!"
Lesson to all -- dig those really deep iffy signals. You just never know what they will turn out to be.
Thanks for looking!
Have a great Holiday weekend!!
