Hello Everyone,

Hope all of you are enjoying your Memorial Day weekend, and getting a little detecting time in.

I went out this morning to our "honey hole" for a few hours. I met DanaPointVal at the crack of dawn, and no more than 5 minutes after I arrive, my buddy, Mike (oknorom), surprised the both of us by showing up. So the three of us started to pound the area, swinging our coils (I stayed with my 8" Sunray) between hundreds of previous plugs in the ground. Right off the bat, I dug my first Injun, a 1900. Then the silver coins started to show. The highlight of my day came when I dug a very iffy and deep signal. At 9", I put my probe in the hole and hear a coin signal. My last scoop of dirt revealed a white-ish colored coin. A Barber!!! Yes!! I noticed on the barber there was a ring around it's face. I knew there was another coin that caused this. I rescanned my pile of dirt, and low and behold, another Barber dime!! This is a first for me!! You can tell by my second photo that the obverse of one dime was laying on top of the reverse of the other, and were protected from the elements. The other sides of the two coins were oxidized. After digging that "honey hole", I found a few more silvers and wheaties, ending my day with 6 silver coins, 2 Injuns (1900, 1906), along with 24 wheaties. I kept saying to myself on my drive home, "What a spot! What a spot!"

Lesson to all -- dig those really deep iffy signals. You just never know what they will turn out to be.

Thanks for looking!
Have a great Holiday weekend!!

Thanks, MUD (S.W.A.T), GRB, and Fisher for the replies!!

Thanks, Nat. Hope you have a great weekend too. I'm going to check out your post...

I wish I did have the video cam today....not sure if I'll ever find multiple barbers in the same hole again. My cameraman/detecting buddy had to work today, so no video unfortunately. :'(

Thanks, Detecting Freak!! So when are you getting your SE?

There's so much in the ground past 8" that's just waiting to be found.

THAT IS SOME GREAT ADVICE AS I ALMOST DID NOT DIG MY 1801 LARGE CENT BECAUSE IT WAS SO DEEP UNDER SOME BIG ROOTS. GLAD I PERSUED IT. THOSE ARE SOME GREAT FINDS. HH

Dan the Man, way to go on the handful of wilvers, injuns, and wheats. That Barber dime spill was probably a heartstopper!

Dan, while you're saying, "What a spot. What a spot, " I am saying, "What a detectorist. What a detectorist." Great job, my good friend from SoCal, on all of your wilver excavations.

Keep that fever high, my good bud!

Kyle

Dan, as always, a great job! Great finds. I'm going out right now to see what I can find. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank You, Kyle!! I hope the Colonial Gods smile down on you, Kirk, and your Uncle, and lead you to some old coppas, Spanish and American wilvers, and colonial artifacts!!

Take care, my good friend from PA!
