I got out for an hour and a half tonight at the private school. I was there about a half hour when I got a deep signal about ten feet from where the William III colonial coin was found on my last trip. Sure enough at about 9 or 10 inches out pops another big copper coin. This time I could see some good detail right out of the hole. I tucked it in my pouch and tried to concentrate on hunting the area for another hour but the whole time I'm thinking that I just wanted to drive home and clean that sucker off! Well, after a quick rinse in the sink I discover that I found a 1723 George I Woods Hibernia colonial copper. There are a couple old scratch marks on the front (I didn't do it) but there is still good detail to be seen on this one. Everything is readable and I haven't even done any cleaning other than a little soapy water. I may try the hot peroxide treatment to really clean it up unless someone knows a reason why I shouldn't. This is my first coin from the 1700's.
