Hey folks, I just want to get opinions on what you think is a good sell price for 40% half dollars in today's market.
With silver at $32.97/oz, a 40% silver half dollar is worth $4.87...

I know dealers need room to make money too, what do you think is a fair price for me to sell my 40% silvers at?

$4.25? $4.30? $4.50? please add the prices you would personally sell at! Thanks.

p.s. i know some believe in holding onto their silver, please don't start a conversation about that.

On a side note...be really careful with high value transaction on eBay. One of my friends got busted few weeks ago. He won a GAE proof set and it turned out to be a complete scam. He had spent countless of time trying to get his money back. The scammer, in this case, was frikin' smart. That crook knows the system real well. My friend almost lost his money. Paypal didn't help much either.

How did the scammer appear smart? Did they send a package even? OR just fake some tracking number? ebay should protect buyers.

My LCS has gold eagles/ canadian gold for right around spot any day. Would much rather get the coinage from him than some ebay BS - at least when dealing with AU

wish my LCS would sell @ spot!

4.5 crackers each is what I get from my favorite baker. ;)

I was wondering if USPS insurance on silver halves would be honored at the insured price, or the face price? I heard that the postal service won't U.S. coins for more than face value. But I see others in this thread saying that they would ship registered with insurance.

They will cover insured price but its a fight to get them to pay

I was overall VERY happy to unload my unwanted 40%ers for $4.50 each, a whopping 92% spot value... I got 10 cents less per coin than online, but i don't have to worry about sending my coins out and hoping i get a check in the mail, I was paid in cash and went on my way, a 5-minute transaction!

Thanks for all the help folks, have a save holiday!

How many were you trying to get rid of?

That's nonsense. They will cover the price that it is insured for.

You may have a tough time getting them to actually cover, but if you do... they are obligated so follow through with the issued coverage amount.

The scammer sent out a package to a grocery store in the same city with signature confirmation. PayPal considered it as good delivery until my friend call up the cc company to dispute the transaction.

Also, for those of you who are considering shipping these stuffs, never use UPS or FedEx. They do not cover PM.

eBay would look at the place of delivery and if it doesn't match the one provided to the seller, then you're covered

Personally, I deal with provident metals. Every deal is smooth, and guaranteed to work out. They have a set buy price = guaranteed ROI. You know you will have your money. No craigslist people to deal with. No auctions. Either ebay or provident you will have to ship + insure either way. I would rather ship to a business with a reputation than a random transaction either on the street off CL or shipping on ebay. Plus pay pal can take a long time to get the cash available, while most provident transaction are paid in about a week with a check in your pocket. I would rather give up the 5 - 10% to provident on the spot price than the 12.3% to ebay/pay pal. That's my two cents! - Jonathan

p.s. - I think that will a valid Purchase Offer from Provident Metals USPS will have a greater possibility on paying out for a loss with the insurance.

I find this very hard to believe? They should not allow you to purchase insurance if they will not cover it. I don't how they would get out of that.

Would have done the same thing myself. By the time you figure in shipping/insurance costs, you very well may have came out dollars ahead...depending on how many you sold. Even if you lost a little, I'd gladly pay a few bucks for immediate cash and more importantly, zero risk.
