50% Silver, not a bad hour!
About 6:30 last night the dogs were restless, and it had rained until well past noon yesterday, so thought I'd take them out for some exercise. I headed to the ball park a couple of blocks from my house with my M-6. Parked the truck, fired up the detector, and not 5 steps from my truck I dig a 1945 wheatie. Now I detected the heck out of this area last summer while learning my machine, and figured good targets were about gone, you know, the "it's all hunted out" syndrome". Not much farther away I get a good hit from one direction, not so from the other direction. I start to dig, and when I check, I'm getting a hit in a spot about 3 inches away. So I fill in my initial hole, and pull the silver Rosie out of the second hole I dig. I tamp everything back into place and recheck the area, and I'm still getting a weakish good signal from my 1st dig area. I redig my first hole and pull out the Merc! This is my second 2 silver dime spill in a week, and the 3rd this summer. The detecting Gods are smiling at me I guess. I ended up with 3 keepers out of 4, I pulled one clad Rosie also, in about an hour.
A couple of lessons learned & relearned, always recheck your hole, which I'm pretty good about, and pursue those weakish signals, and that truly, no area is ever hunted out! I hope everyone is having a great detecting weekend, and making lots of stellar finds. Best of luck folks!
