Sounds like you had a great day - you must have callouses on your digging hand ;D

You guys on the other side of the pond really need to petition your government to introduce $1 and $2 coins and get rid of the pennies. I went out for about three hours today, found about 30 coins for a total of $25.05. Still lots of 1c and 2c coins (which went out of circulation here in 92)but finding 9 x $2 and 6 x $1coins makes all the difference.

Harry, we do have a one dollar coin made for circulation here in the U.S., but they are not popular for a variety of reasons. They don't work in most vending machines, they are about the size of the quarter, the designs were, arguably, of politically correct motivated subjects, etc. There are 3 different designs in recent issue, the Susan B. Anthony from 1979 to 1999, The Sacajawea design from 2000 to date, and the new Presidential dollar coins just introduced this year. Before the Susan B., we had the Ike dollar from 1971 to 1978 which was a full size dollar coin like the old Morgan and Peace silver dollars. People just don't carry them or spend them.

It will be interesting to see if the new Presidential series gains any popularity as far as circulation goes.

Nice job! You've reached some good milestones as a detectorist.

I think to have $1 coins accepted in the US you'd also need to take the $1 note out of circulation like we did here in Oz. If there isn't an alternative then people will have no option but to carry (and therefore drop/lose) coins. At the end of the day I don't see acceptance of $1 and $2 coins in the US anytime soon but if it ever did happen you would certainly see a big increase in your clad hunting totals.
