+80 Year old Jar of preserved Salmon

You could probably trap Martin with that old canned salmon. Yum!

More likely the local skunk...they got a bad habit of showing up at the worst
times.. skunk.webp

Some 30 years back I was trapping mink, and made my own fish oil. Not
hard to make really...just catch a bunch of fish, chop them up (guts and all)
and put the pieces in a 1 gal. glass jar, put the lid on. Poke a hole in the
lid and put in an exhaust tube about 1/2" x 18" long. Be sure to seal
around the vent tube where it goes through the lid.

Find a good spot, down wind, and bury it about a foot deep, with
the vent hose poking up above ground. Come back in a year (or so) and
dig it back up. When you open it up, but sure a good stiff wind is hitting
you in the back.

You'll have both fish oil, and fish "paste". Smells awful...works great.

I wonder if some scientists would like to compare it to the Salmon coming from our oceans now. You might want to check with a local university! Great find. I grew up eating canned salmon, one of my favorites!

My nephew is a waste water guy. Has been to Guam, Saipan, Phillipines working on systems. Has eaten such things as fried bat wings(leave hair on), and a lot of fish. Hhe was warned about the levels of mercury in him by a doctor. Told to cut back on fish.

I have a story to rival this one I think - about 20 years ago a friend of mine showed me a can of oysters from about 1920 - Unopened , with an intact label - kind of a "black face" African American - rather racist looking now days ! I can only imagine the stench if that can was opened now !

I found a still sealed bottle of crown royal dated 1970,yup i drank it.

Red James Cash , I inherited a bottle of Crown Royal - sealed from 1957 I think , I probably could have sold it for decent money , I too enjoyed it !

ARG,i checked out the possibilities of selling mine. The thing that kills selling old whiskey, etc,is that once it leaves the cask it stops aging.
