The compass is German WWII era, it is called a Marschkompass (marching compass). Nice find here is a photo and a link to more info regarding the company-

The Platte Valley jugs is nice but common....in my younger days, I used to drink it....the first sip was like kerosene but after that you didn't care...lol...goat
