My wife and I went back to Raleigh last weekend. Her for business and me for monkey business. :tongue3: I was able to detect at one of my old spots again. I have pounded this spot for many years, but was still happy to be there. It was in the 40’s but sunny, so not too bad. I didn’t go out into the large wooded areas because it was logged this year for the pine trees and the fallen branches were everywhere. Tough walking let alone detecting. It was also hunting season.
I just stuck to two of the small pine sapling areas closer to the house. These two areas used to be farm fields back in the day. It was a pain in the butt working around in all of those saplings. I felt like a squirrel looking for a nut. I worked an area that I had never hit too much before in the past. Not a lot of signals, but I was super pleased to score a knapsack hook and other pieces, two small cuff buttons, a thimble, round ball, a large piece of melted lead, and lantern bits. They were in a somewhat small area, so the next time I go back I’m going to concentrate on that area more.

Any idea what the large round iron piece was used for?

Two good laughs during the hunt:

1- I was out there for over 30 minutes before I realized I had accidentally hit the off switch on my headphones. No wonder it was so quiet!

2- I noticed that even one of the pine trees was happy to see me again. LOL. (Sorry, I got a good chuckle when I saw that) :laughing7:

Thanks for looking Folks,
MM

Cool finds Doug....anything there going into a bird house??:laughing7:

GOD Bless

Chris

Funny you should ask. Here are a few more I made this month.
Also some more barn wood I brought back this last trip. I found out that some of the wood I have been using is wormy chestnut which is quit expensive and hard to get.
I was actually thinking about offering the owner some $ to get the whole barn.
That new barn remodel TV show has me thinking.
Great to hear from you Chris.

You are the man with talent!!

I should be able to get out some more this year. Took the vehicle in for a repair this morning, so depending on how fast the mechanic gets it done, maybe in the next couple days. I have gotten several permissions that need looked at and I really don't want to wait until next spring.

Worldtalker's question reminded me that I wanted to tell you that your use of finds in the bird houses you craft are a great idea. Sometimes I actually find myself imagining uses for some of my finds like that.

I hope you get that hunt in with The Trio. Finding the great CW relics they do would be awesome, but I believe the laughs that would be certain would be priceless!

Dave,
I'm still hiding out in my workshop trying to stay out of my wife's hair. I feel like Grandpa Munster when I come up from downstairs. LOL
Here are a few more. (See above)

I would def put an offer in for that chestnut. Very sought after by the right client

Good to see you out Detecting and saving some finds, about the Pine tree, you could write your own Wikipedia Article on how you know a "Pine Tree" may be considered a Hard Wood. Good to see you back working on the bird houses too, Bill

That was a good one! You know those pine trees Bill. Finding anything around them is like finding a "needle" in a haystack. :tongue3:
Great to hear from you again,
Doug - Not to be confused with Douglas Fir

Nice digs man:icon_thumleft:

Now where the heck you been?

Does a "hard" wood become a "soft" wood when Doug leaves? If nobody's there to witness it

I've been out looking for one of those banner buckles like yours Buddy. That is UNREAL!!!!
Actually, since we moved to the NC mountains, Asheville area, I lost my mojo. I was spoiled in the Raleigh area. :laughing7:
I have an article in this months (Dec) Western & Eastern Treasure mag on a spot I detected here.
Congrats again on that awesome buckle Blaze. :occasion14:

It sure does Abe. Oak turns to Balsa wood. :laughing9:
