maybe eight or nine so far

i am finding out about the 'mandan (hidatsa-arikara) womens goose clan (society)'

the smithsonian has some of these
i know of one that looks like a horse head and one that looks like a wooodpecker and you know of one that looks like an eagle or raptor..........
.......then the one at the mandan library that looks like a 'parrot?'
i know this 82 year old guy that i invited out to the site so he could show his grand daughter how to find artifacts......in less than a half hour she (8yrs old) found a bird head....true story from about 3 yrs ago

i am trying to research a man that is an authority on these and his name is 'john ewers'......i also rec'd a message from a person that found one here in bismarck in 1983....
.......so maybe 9 or ten or eleven all total known to me
the little one that still has the handle on my avatar is my fav they always seem to have a broke handle

So how do you feel about the pieces as to what they were used for Larson? I have seen incised stone come from different places but of course I haven't found any. Still looking for that type of artifact.

well i really don't know

but i think toys, good luck charms, etc have been around for many thousands of years?

Well I was hoping you had a insight on them. Sure are interesting pieces.

They may have been used by the tribal Shaman, or they may have been used in telling stories to the younger ones how nature works.

That's a interesting thing I can see them telling the stories and it makes good sense to me. I would have to say that is a big possibility as to what they were used for sir.
