A Monster from The East Coast of N.C.

Thought you all would like to see this beast from the east.This has been handed down from my Great-Great grandfather who was born in 1895.And he found it as a young boy here oystering.Was caught in a dredge in the middle of Pamlico Sound.The white you see on it is oyster shell still stuck to it.The piece is 6 1/2 inches long & 2 1/2 inches wide.Although me & my dad have been at this, for him over 50yrs as he is 64 now & me 30yrs. 39 now neither of us has toped this find.And I always think of it when oystering as that is something I still do & also handed down.

I thought any true Native American relic/artifact hunter would love to see it. :wink:

It's a very nice piece & of course pics. can't do it justice but it's better then nothing.

It is truely a jaw dropper in the hand up close. :headbang:

Me & Pop have found hundreds over the years all shapes/(kinds) and size but my great granddad (which I see I added to many greats in the first post......ooops) as he was my great grandfather set the bar high for us.And he pasted away at 96yrs old in 1991.(RIP)

sounds like heaven to me, hunting artifacts & getting oysters all while being at the beach! my kinda day. them oysters are hard to catch, ain't they? gotta run real fast to keep up with them. nice piece to keep passing down the family.

I do know the general location it was found in, & as you may know some of the deepest parts of the sound now and days reach maybe 28ft.The area it was found in & being that he was dredging I'd put it at somewhere around 10-12ft for a best guess.Even now an days with all the regulations on dredges and such it's not to wise to start getting in to shallow of water as you can have problems with the boat drift over your dredge & take a chance on putting it through the bottom of the haul.

I can remember my dad almost everytime we would go sit with my great grandfather drilling him on things of his past.

This story I remember well.I always liked the disscussions about stuff from the past.As my great gradfather was not much of a talker but if you ask him a question he was always thrilled to talk then.Another words he weren't one for starting a conversation but he could fill your ears full once you got him talking.(great man/hard worker/worked to get what little he past away with) old school all the way. :thumbsup:

It's purdy amazing what they done back then & how things were done.Just for instance his home he lived in was/came from all the way over here.It was a old school house in the late 1800's-early 1900's here on Core Sound. Was taken from here early 1900's loaded on a bardge hauled all the way across pamlico sound to pamlico county up a creek,set on logs,cleared about a 1500ft path or better through marsh & trees,& rolled all the way to where it sit's today.

Part of your question is not to hard to answer, :wink:

as pamlico sound was not always under water. :thumbsup:

And best described/shown in the link below.As far as what they were hunting........ animals also much different then today.North Carolina in the past would had looked like some kinda Africa sorta as far as animals go.With large grazing animals and all much much different then today.
