to 50 silver coins.........from 49 since last week. That was the number that LI TOM and I settled on. Not wanting to wait another day or week, I got myself out of bed and to the park where I had found a SLQ. We've been over this place time and time again, but I still had and have faith that it can produce.

With only 2 1/2 hours set aside for this run before I had to head to work, I was thinking of the strategy and locations throughout the entire subway ride. Tom would've had a fit to see that the Park's Department folks decided to blow a 10" layer of leaves over the good areas. I managed whatever good ground was left and things were going well as far as targets. Plenty of coin signals, even picked up a few quarters. The ground has started to freeze here, so digging was not at its best. At one point it looked as though this would end up in a fair clad hunt, but after picking up a couple of wheats in a past producing patch, I ran into a signal that sounded good enough to dig. What came out first is that clover looking thing. I believe it to be a button, not sure.

A quick re-scan of the hole revealed a fainter signal, but confirmable through pin-pointing a bit to the left of where the button thing was. Dug a bit more and whatever it was dropped on top of the snow, low and behold, I couldn't find it. Passed the coil a few inches away from the hole and knew it was already out and on top but couldn't see it at all. In my mind I figured, hell, this is good, it just may be a silver coin blending in with the snow, and logic became reality. Using the edge of the Explorer coil, I zeroed in on it, a silver Rosie, and my 50th silver coin for the year. As usual, photos attached.

I found a clover-type medallion just like that at a park here in town. Was told it might have something to do with the Girl Scouts?

Nice! I found another Silver last night when out hunting with BB in the sleet! Way to go there man.

WTG Ricardo, congrats on the big 50. Great stuff. You are a dedicated hunter. Good luck to you and Happy Holidays!

That’s how to do it Ricardo. I like digging old coins too. It shows that you must have had a friend, and mentor metal detecting expert that showed you the ropes :).

It must be true, that the Grasshopper matures and passes the Teacher :) ;).
Thanks for sharing and Gold Luck.

That would be Philo_NY (Not his s/n here) or as it seems some know him, Phil O from the Bronx. Got me started, showed me around his grounds and has always given me advice about the detector I am using. With that, I try to do the same for other people.

Thanks Ant,

Regards,
Ricardo

You guys are really tough, out detecting in the snow and sleet! I'm afreaid I'm a fair weather detectorist. My finds of late show it too. ::) Congrats on the 50th silver. Silver is far and few between in my area. Monty

Ricardo seems you have been on fire with the Explorer....imagine if you got out even more... I see your hunting conditions are the same as mine... I strained my lower back and have not been able to hunt during the week...the cold and snow caused it... You know how it is...a few inches of frozen ground sure slows you down...once again great job...

Ricardo,
You are surely dedicated to the hobby being out in that weather. It paid off for you too. 50 silver is fantastic!!! ;D
Congrats to you.
Happy Holidays,
MM

You guys dig big holes up there for such small coins. Is the grass really going to grow back? LoL

Congrats on the 50th ;)
You got me there Yammy, not my best hole.......I'll call it an extended hole......at one point it was half the size and a button came out, a rescan showed a signal right next to it, and at that point the hole was enlarged to bring out the coin from almost 6 inches. The two separate top parts of the plug were conserved and put back in place as best possible. Will the grass grow back? Can't tell 100%, but I've hit this place hard along with another person and there is little evidence we were there. Anyone who's gone detecting with me can tell you I make a good effort to keep things neat.

Best,
Ricardo

WTG Ricardo! Nice find on #50!

Doesn't look like I'm going to have the chance to reach that mark this year but who knows? Maybe it'll warm up at some point :) If not silver, then I'll shoot for some gold at the beach at the end of the month .

Take care,

Joe

Ricardo,
You are a die-hard detectorist. If my eyes do not deceive me, it looks as though you are in dress shoes and dress pants all ready to go to work.
Am I correct?
I have done that once, because I was really itchin to go metal detecting.
Keep up the good hunt.
I enjoy viewing your post.

You got it Rob :) I'm pretty sure the pole sticking out of my backpack and my muddy shoes gave away my whereabouts this morning here at the office!

Yeah, but I bet it was all worth it though.
