Thanks' for the nice comments everyone. Anne, it's a gallon jug so it might of been whiskey or cider? I really don't know what else they would of put in them. Lakedweller, it was by the side of the river under 6" of sand so i'm sure that's how it stayed intact. This was only the 2nd whole one that I have found in 20 years so when I was digging around it I really thought it would be broken. I also found an amber hock wine bottle that is 14" tall and a aqua quart beer or soda bottle from the 1880's to the 1890's - R. Dederich East Saginaw Mich. I found a older amber one from the same guy a few years ago and I was happy to come out with 3 things I have never found. Man that water is cold I almost got frostbite putting my arm in the water digging that hock wine bottle out that was wedged in between 2 logs. LOL.
