About the F2 program

When using the F2 program do you still use the FE or leave it at zero?

My understanding is that only one works at a time. In other words, if you left FE set at 6 but switched to F2 only F2 will be engaged and it doesn't really matter what FE was on - zero or a 6 and vice-versa with F2 switching to FE.

This is correct - whichever one you are in when you exit the menu is the one you are using.

Thank you guys go in a iron patch Sunday. Where is most putting it at F2-4 or what?

I have read that a setting of F2-4 is the equivalent of FE-0. So, if you want minimal masking of non-ferrous items in an "iron patch" you would use F2-0. You may want to try differing recovery speeds in combination with a setting of F2-0 or a combination of lower F2 settings and recovery speeds until you find what works best for you.

I think I would try f2-2 and recovery speed of 6 to start, go slow and see how that works.

Try using F2 @9 and raising the recovery speed to 7 or 8, along with a slower swing speed to see if you can still get those deep targets and not have a masking problem. So far, I've been happy doing that in iron infested sites. I also run in all metal and 50 tones, but, I'm a glutton for punishment!

F2 = 0 and all metal in an iron patch results in A LOT of falsing, I have found. I don't see a lot of masking keeping F2 between 4 to 6 and you get the benefit of reducing falsing. The F2 filter seems to be more effective over all than the Fe filter. Not only does the F2 filter work beyond the range of the Fe filter (i.e., F2= 0 is << Fe = 0 and F2 = 9 is >> Fe =9), F2 seems to be more effective where the "strength" of the filters are approximately equal (i.e., when Fe = 0 and F2 =4 or Fe = 2 and F2 = 5, for example). The other revelation with this update is that some level of iron bias filtering is always applied even when Fe = 0 or F2 = 0. The only time when there is no iron bias filtering is when you are in single frequency. Both Iron bias filters require multifrequency to do their stuff. That is why you don't have access to the iron bias settings when operating single frequency.
