Al Qaeda in Montana?

Just caught a yahoo news clip about an unused 460 bed detention facility in Hardin, Montana that WANTS to take on the detainees about to be ejected from Gitmo.

Personally if at any time a detainee claims to be a member of al qaeda like the scumbag who planned the attacks of 2001 has said numerous times, then that should be an atuomactic and immediate death sentence to be carried out by a military firing squad. No prison beds required - just a hole in the ground.

There's certainly lottsa land out this way... there's no money in a dead guy though... I think this town want the feds to pony-up th ecash to house these fells... it'll be like thier own little stimulous package.

I wonder if the local folks are being coerced by Baucus or Tester. Both very democratic, and both very pro-military.

Well, they said they got a 460 bed facility all ready...
Didn't mention what it was actually built for.
But they did say Hardin was just about shut down for the bad economy.
From the video it still looked like plenty cars driving, though.
Here, at times when you wouldn't normally be able to do so, you can look from one end to the other and not see but a single other car. I'm not saying it lasts a long time, but it's noticeable.
This morning, it was real busy... bustling... yard sales all over the place!

Built by Two Rivers Authority, the city's economic development arm, the facility was meant to bring economic development to Hardin by creating more than 100 high-paying jobs.

Two Rivers Authority ran into troubles shortly after construction on the facility finished in July 2007 when the state had no prisoners to send there.

Without prisoners, TRA hasn't been able to repay $27 million in revenue bonds that paid for construction. The project went into default last year.

Looks like the people of the town decided to mortgage it for a venture in the law enforcement growth industry. They sure are a long ways out there!

It's the kind of industry that needs a "full house" to make it profitable. Nobody can staff and house a prison system that only has one or five inmates. It needs to be full of prisoners to be able to pay and equip a staff. It's not uncommon to house prisoners from other jurisdictions who are "paying rent" for the inmate.

California is letting inmates out, not because they can't house them - but because they can't PAY to house them.

I wonder what the plan would be in Harden... a military operation? Maybe the DoD would pony-up the rent cash and just move a military structure in there to guard, cook, clean, house, and care for these prisoners. More the entire GITMO operation to Montana? I bet the guards wouldn't mind!

Yes, I know fellas that were there... aside from the riots (years ago) I think they enjoy'd the area. BUT - it's a lot easier to take leave and get out of town in Montana then it is from GITMO in Cuba!

They need to fill it they can have our county prisoners the county jail is gonna be shut down by the state .. its a mess need a new one but til they finish fighting about stuff they can house our people and a few other jails around the state and I bet around the country! There are enough prisoners to keep them full from all over the country.

Not a bad idea , but I have a different twist on it. Years back I spent 2 weeks in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area.
Most beautiful country, but supposedly that section of the country had the largest concentration of grizzly bear in
the lower 48 states. I would say to let them go free after rubbing them & their sheets down in bacon grease &
salmon oil , then let them play hide & go seek with those bears looking to load up for the winter. On second thought,
I could be wrong, it might be unfair to try to fool these bears to eat $h!t wrapped up in a bacon or salmon taco. ::)
