Gotta dig em all
Never heard of this, "If a band is broken on a gold ring.... ha ha ha you won't pick it up at all."
not with my machines, this odd ring find, tested as 10K,
Rang up loud N clear
Anyone else dig broken gold rings?
HH
Hmm, I don't remember how 'loud n clear' it rang, but I dug it, and sold it with the rest of my junk gold last month. 10KTORRERO said:steelheadwill said:Nice Ring!

If this broken ring sounds loud and clear, I would be very suspicious of the metal content.
I was digging a good signal on the beach in Spain, years ago, and suddenly the signal
disappeared.... where did it go
Well we dig around in the sand a few minutes and suddenly I see a gold band in the sand... (18k)
but my machine can't see it...
so I picked it up to see and I had cut it open with the edge of my shovel.
(I use a regular shovel on the beach)
Tried this several different ways, if it was "Closed" it sounded good like a gold ring, if it was open
it would not sound at all...
Same thing with silver rings... complete they sometimes hit the high 80's on my DFX
broken open they may not reach 60, sometimes as low as the 40s
Conductivity on a complete circuit or ring is much better than on an open ring..

No the ring was not broken, only thing is it was all mashed up. Picture is of my lame attempt to round it up with my mandrel. Pic is too large but is ok, you can clearly see the 925 mark.TORRERO said:tell us the truth, the band was broken somewhere when you dug it right ?
that is why it came up in the zinc zone on your machine.
If the band is broken on a silver or copper ring it will read lower than normal,
If a band is broken on a gold ring.... ha ha ha you won't pick it up at all.
And you need to try to get a better picture for the rest of us....
Mont, disc settings are crucial...montepollock said:I,ve been using a CZ5 that I,m still learning so this post is especially of interest to me,will have to do some air tests to see.
On many notch detectors IHPs drop out very close to zinc,so Ive been digging every signal from foil on up.
Kind of defeats the Idea of a discriminator though.I love finding silver.
Gold is the garish light of sun, silver is as the evenings cooling or a gentle rain.
