Yesterday I went back to the small town where I hunted a sidewalk tearout a few weeks back. Well now they scraped the entire curb strip off about 6" deep!!!!

yesterday was the best day, got 6 indians, 9 wheats, 3 silver 1892 and 1902 barbers, 1916 merc, and 1887 V nickel. Today was nothing to complain about but not quite as stellar. Today netted me 3 buffalo nickels, 4 more wheats, 2 more indians, another barber dime and a soap token. Pretty good hunt both days!

now in 3 weeks I have dug all 1916 merc dimes how nuts is that!???
8-27-11 dug the 1916-D
9-11-11 dug the 1916-S
9-14-11 I dug the 1916 plain.....good thing I got the "D" first...lol

this year I am at 157 silver, 94 indians (my goal is 100!!!)

Great job on those coins! You did good. Donnie

Awesome bunch of finds!! I keep looking for opportunities like that, but I rarely find anything when I do... The last sidewalk tear out I stopped at, I found one zincoln... I'll keep looking though...

I have never hunted a side walk tear out but I am always looking for one. Fantastic score!!

everyone I have found in my area has produced wheats Indians and silver

Wow, nice haul! Sometimes they replace the sidewalks to fast for me to get in there, I guess the bigger the job the better opportunity, leaving some areas exposed between the days, Good Job  !

Where is the "D" on the '16 Merc? I don't see it. ???
the 16D was found aug 27th, it is on the banner if you wanna see the post, thanks!

OK, thanks for the response and 'grats again for the terrific finds! :notworthy:

Where is that tear out.... I can travel alittle . :laughing9:

Man, that is just awesome!!! How many people can say they have a complete set (p, d, s) of '16 mercs??? My bet is not too many....congratulations on some GREAT digs!!!

Wow. great time for you. I always have found coins by the sidewalks but never lucky enough to get at one when being torn up. Once in my home town of mentor ohio i saw a torn up street and hunted and found a real nice old perfume bottle and a 1928 Standing Liberty Quarter that looks like someone dropped it in 1929. I could read the date without my reading glasses. Good luck with all the next times you go.

I friend of mine actually does the concrete work for sidewalk tear-outs. As Goes4ever knows, these can be primo sites.

Here's a suggestion: find out the company(s) who is doing that work in your town. Meet them. Tell them what you do. Often you can get invitations to hunt a tear-out before anyone else knows about it. Some local ones in Portland have yielded gold coins and Barber silver. Just sayin'.

You got lucky and beat the rest.

awesome hunt!!!!!!! MR TUFF

So Sweet! super finds!

I'm hoping to try the tearouts one of these days. I missed some in the town I work in by a couple days!

A friend said he did see a person detecting one of the days so at least maybe they got lucky!
