Have you read any of the proposed legislation? Do you understand the mindset of a typical liberal? I haven't been listening to the NRA, I've been listening to the politicians and I'm seeing what they are doing in states like California and New York.

No offense was intended. I have a friend who identifies himself as a liberal and a Democrat. However, he is pro 2nd amendment and also for conservative fiscal policies. He is not a "typical liberal" in that regard and he is starting to realize that himself - it's a strange situation but it's because he was raised in a pro UAW, Democrat home. Most of the other liberals I know support confiscating guns and big government intervention into all facets of our lives. I consider myself to be a conservative, leaning towards libertarian; therefore, I would not get offended if I was classified as a "typical conservative." Hell, you can call me a "gun nut" and I wouldn't care.

There are specific values that groups of people hold. It is completely fair to make SOME general statements about those groups. The liberal politicians are generally for gun control verging on all out confiscation. The conservative politicians are generally for allowing law-abiding citizens to posses guns.

Who is proposing all of this legislation? Generally speaking, it is liberal, progressive, Democrat politicians who are pushing for the gun control laws that the original poster is referring to.

Exactly! We are all reacting to what is happening in Washington DC.

There has been some evolution of the N.R.A.but basic tenets remain the same. Support of the gun industry in regards to laws regarding them a given.
As with civilian marksmanship program(note tie to government) the foundation rests on the use of arms by civilians. Created in large part by veterans for seeing a need for experience. The defence of the second amendment a necessary response to preserve civilian ownership. The weapons highlighted recently are used by vets (and others) due in part to familiarity. Durability a plus as semi-autos of poor quality in harsh conditions easily become non functional.
Today the group has expanded into safety and training programs for a greater audience,a watch dog for laws affecting guns and a nonprofit lobby for gun owners. Were all gun owners involved it would become a more effective lobby but people are people and till it directly affects them(to late) its not a concern.

Let not forget that the NRA is probably one of the largest lobbying / special interest groups out there. Is not like gun owners are David vs Goliath here. Though I know everyone wants to be the oppressed little guy. If you don't think the NRA is salivating thinking of all the new members and contributions they will be getting you are kidding yourselves. I'm not saying they are creating the situation but they are sure as hell taking full selfish advantage of it.

Selfish as in promoting their interests of course.. there is the gun control crowd just as rabid. Lets consider our youth and their ability to handle arms effectively also. Despite t.v. shows practice and technique are crucial ,not inherent but learned marksmanship. Experience a plus despite training provided in military.
While i have a great dislike seeing them in combat prior experience in shooting makes a great difference. That is a large part of original intent of previously mentioned activities. Not saying its the only reason but why else would the government support learning to shoot among youth?

The proposed legislation of this thread includes weapons of the type one of which was found in trunk,(not used in crime) and now being demonized instead of those who would misuse it due to potential. Where does that train of thought end?
What long term study of statistics show a greater use of same type, or average number of shots fired?
If potential for harm an acceptable measure to ban anything lets start with statistics and not emotion.
What causes top greatest harms to humans and why are they not banned if a greater cause?

A member of the New Black Panther Party who was charged with voter intimidation in the 2008 election for standing outside a Philadelphia polling site was back Tuesday morning – in an official capacity.Jerry Jackson, who was charged in the 2008 case along with Minister King Samir Shabazz, but later saw charges dropped by the Department of Justice, was seen early Tuesday outside a North Philadelphia voting site wearing the group’s trademark black beret, combat-style uniform and heavy boots. Jeep, it has absolutely nothing to do with race, nothing at all!!!! I could care less if the man was purple. I would have voted for Herman Cain in a heart beat and he is full black, obama is half white. Obama is a socialist, he is out to turn american in to a socialst country. This country was founded on democracy and captialism, it was not founded on socialism....

What has he done for this country, nothing, has our economy improved, NO. He vowed to cut our debt in half when he first ran, instead he has added 6+ trillon more to it, added 15+ million people more on food stamps, welfare is up 32% under his adminstration..... When Obama first took office in January 2009, the unemployment rate was 7.8 percent. Today the unemployment rate is once again at 7.8 percent, he has done nothing about unemployment.............

He violated constitutional law by refusing to deport aliens in 2009 bypassing existing imigration law.

His whole adminstration swore the attacks in Libya were in protest to a video which were pure lies.... Now he is furnishing Jets to the Egyptian Brotherhood, a sworn enemy of America and who are infact killing their own countrymen. It is okay to provide jets to sworn enemies of this country because they are muslim, but law abiding citizens can't have semi-auto rifles......................

Now he is attacking our rights guaranteed under our Constitution's Bill of Rights. In his oath of office he swears to protect and defend the Constitution.

This is why we are against him and it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH COLOR AT ALL!!! People who say it is about color are the ones who are racist. People who continue to support him and his failed policies strictly because he is black are racists....

We will not surrender our rights under the Bill of Rights to anyone!

Guys, no offense but this election was a blowout - no fraud needed. The GOP would have launched a million lawsuits if they thought there was fraud. Every single poll had Obama winning. Romney threw the towel in early on in the counting. It's over. I'm a conservative (more libertarian but usually a voting republican) but today's Republican Party really doesn't stand for anything anymore and just keeps focussing on what I consider to be fringe social / religious issues. They will continue to lose until they can get back to fiscal conservatism ( instead if spending like stricken sailors and creating big gov like gwb did) and stop wasting time on dumb social issues that most modern american don't really find the governments business. When I hear some republicans speak - like the s that said woman who get preg from rape wanted to be raped - I get very very embarrassed to vote republican. Hopefully the party can get back to its roots before it becomes a non entity. Best.
