Here's some I found. Had to glue the tip back on the big E notch, my boy was 2 yrs old when I found it and got a hold of it. Could I get some opinions on large notch on the side. I looks like it was put on for a purpose. 2-16-13 017.JPG 2-16-13 018.JPG

More than often that is from a impact break, but to be sure we need a close up of that area. Nice frame and a good assortment of points.

If it was put there then it would be a knife with a spokeshave.

I have a couple others with that same notch, the patina matches the rest of the point, so I figured it was an old break or something to do with shaving shafts. Thank You.

Spokeshave.. maybe.
Maybe a blade that kept slipping in the haft and needed some "fixin"

GatorBoy; Thanks for the input. I think that very well could be.

You're welcome just trying to put myself in the position of needing to make that notch.
Out of curiosity does the blade edge opposite the notch appear to be more heavily sharpened?

It's either very old damage from use or it's a Spokeshave worked into the side. I'd have to see better pics or hold it in hand to say for sure, but I doubt it was an extra notch for hafting.

Nice frame, great E-Notch!

I would think that it was accidentally flaked off that side during production or use and then reworked for functionability, a very common occurrence.
