Long time lurker here. You guys are amazing with your id's! I have learned tons reading this site over the years. I found these two items many years ago at an old home site here in western Maryland. Detecting finds start out in the very early 1700's in this area. I've shown them to many diggers and posted them on a forum or two, and no one has any idea what they are for sure. Any of you have a clue as to what they might be? Thanks...Beau

Are they hollow? Looks like they could be used for doing double snort of snuff or coke, JMWAG.....NGE

How about a double of whiskey? Sounds good to me. Here is a shot of their "hollowness". Hmmmm.....

Could be an early powder flask. Cool whatever it is.

If filled with powder, would each item be 2 different measures?

I first thought measure but they are far bigger than the small lead measures I've seen.

Looks like they were made to be kept very near the user, hence the loop in between the two horns. Could it also be a crude pitch pipe, used by blowing across the tops, to make the sound, like doing the same with a soda bottle?.........NGE

Maybe a Boswain's whistle, they only have two notes. Man, the way some words and people kick start the brain. I'll have to see what I can find in that area of thinking........NGE

It appears to have been made to hang around the neck possibly :dontknow: but for what? Could they be containers with corks? Are both containers the same size? Fill them each with something and measure please.

Hi Aquachigger, I have a couple in my collection, found in Holland, but I have to look them up. They are to be worn around the neck, I thought for flowers. But not sure anymore, its been years since I have seen them (in some boxes). Will look them up if I get the time tomorrow and look up what they are for sure.

Greetings Earl

Thanks for the comments. The holes are connected on the inside. I'm not sure measuring the volume would do much good as they are both pretty beat up. Oops my bad! My gut feeling was that they might hold flowers/something similar. It's interesting that someone else came up with that idea as well. Pitch pipe? I never thought of that, could be. Snuff mull...maybe? I'll keep scratching my head for a while longer, but I'm hoping for a definitive on this mystery! Thanks for looking...

If they are connected, its not much sense measuring I agree. ;D

It looks to be a Victorian 'double snuff snorter,' made to sniff snuff up both nostrils at the same time. Below is a pic of a modern one, which is probably used for something else other than snuff. Nice & Unusual finds, Breezie

OK, did find mine in a box, and took some photos. Still have to find the determination of them for you...

What is neat, I have two, one with a ball and with a point, the same as you have!

Added a top view today....
