Any clues as to what this cone may be?

The piece is copper, and heavy on the knob end.

The only thing that comes to mind for me when I look at this—thing, is that where the hole is there was a handle.
My thought is that it's a candle sniffter— putter outer. LOL. What do you think?

Now that you've cleaned it, unless it's the camera angle, it looks like brass. If it is, then we're back to a tip to something such as a walking stick, etc.

You may find that it was the protective tip on an (old) umbrella.
