This was one of my first memorable finds this summer. It was along the small river behind my house. Any info about how old it might be would be appreciated
It is a creamer. I can't read the stamp but from the numbers on the bottom I would guess mid 20th C. If you can tell us what the stamp says you might get a more definitive answer.
The pics are a little deceiving because pic 1 appears to be a cup and pic 4 appears to be a creamer. I think it is a bent up baby cup based on the size. If it is a creamer it is an "individual creamer" but i'm leaning towards the former. I can't make out all the letters in the mark but I can make out- "? ? Silver Plate Co." encircling the "quadruple plate" mark. Quadruple plate was popular in the last quarter of the 19th century. Based on that and the etching, I suspect your object is older than mid 20th century. I don't see any Pairpoint marks that match it.
edit- I see Matt thnks the same thing at the same time, lol.
I'll stick with the "quadruple plate" reading but the name of the specific company remains a mystery. The phrase 'quadruple plate' refers, of course, the the thickness of the plating. The more plating, the longer the item should last; but the value is not greatly affected since the layers of silver are so thin.
Based on the relative size of the quarter and the item, I'll stick with DCM 's original call of a creamer.
Don.....
in the olden days we had a cup just like that one attached to a chain at the spring (well) on the farm. It was just as beat and bent and was used to drink from.
