Anybody ever get a bad feeling detecting ALONE?

I always have a Springfield .45 and the Lord with me... but I still get skeered of the big ol boogey man!

I typically hunt abandoned property lost to time in the woods and ALWAYS feels as if somebody is watching me... from inside the house!!!

I hunted an abandoned hospital/home/mansion that is rumored to be haunted, I felt creeped out a little but some of these old places I hunt in the woods get my skin crawling.

I figure anything that my .45 or the Lord can't handle is gonna get me anyway! Lol but I really am considering buying my brother a AT Pro just so I have a hunting partner. I figure some company will help cut down on the creeps and increase the odds of locating more objects.

Yeah I sure can't wait to get back up there with the new coil, I probably only searched 2% of the property.

I found two new abandoned houses, ones isn't far from the road but surrounded by trees and hidden outa sight, so hopefully nobody has been there yet. I still gotta see if I can find the owner, a lot of property here is abandoned, it eventually becomes the property of the City or the County.

The other house is at least 1700 feet from the closest road and surrounded by a very old forest. An area next to the house has much younger trees, so it's obvious that was the farmers field at one time. I was able to get the property info from TerraFly, now I need to contact the suspected owners and go from there.

Most people don't want anybody on their property, so this year I'm going to try offering money or yard work. My job leaves little free time in the Summer, so I tend to focus on private property to increase the odds of higher quality finds.

Pull tabs, clad coins and trinkets are all I find in the parks around here, although I have been wanting to hit the beach at the lake just to see if there are any real goodies there.

its a mean dangerous world out there. The number one hazard in woods are dead trees still standing. If you are not paying attention to the dead trees it could result in your death or serious injury. We call them Widowmakers. Once in a blue moon I run across a hand dug well which would be bad news . I almost fell backwards in a very wide large well once. I had to jump to get away from falling into it. You got BEEs Yellow Jackets to be watchful for. And yes I get creeped out from time to time. Carry MACE and hunt with a entrenching tool when alone. Sometimes I slide my headphones over a little bit as to hear outside sounds. That helps

We weren't alone, but my partner and I were out deep in the woods the other day and came across the beginnings of what appeared to be a trash dump. We followed it a little ways and I think it was originally a house, maybe from the 60s or something based on the types of trash laying out..anyway I think a house burned down out there, there were piles of shingles, burnt wood, carpet, lots of home items. Only a few things seem charred, though. It was weird - some of the stuff out there looked really old, some looked like old things that were recently put there. The entire time we were looking at this place we had a really bad feeling that we shouldn't be there, or that we should leave. Both of us felt it. Like being watched, but also paranoia and a feeling of impending danger/dread. We explored for maybe 7ish minutes before it was just too much and nearly at the same time we both said let's go somewhere else. On the way out of the area, we heard footsteps/scurrying in the leaves, after being out there for hours and literally hearing nothing like that before. This was something big and very close. We both froze and stood still for about 2 minutes trying to see if we could see anything - we never did. I'm sure it wasn't a person, the was scurrying to fast for that, but I don't know what it was, or if it was even what was giving us the creepy feeling. Despite thinking there might be something cool out there to find we both agreed when we got home that something was telling us we shouldn't be there and we won't be going back. I'm still thinking about it nearly a week later, I've never felt SO strongly that something wasn't right!

I get my senses tripped once in a while. Had a few run-ins in urban North NJ settings with homeless and crack-heads but they have always gone the other way. In secluded places I always have a machete at my side, an 18" lesche, and I'm a full slab of meat at 6 feet tall and a muscular 280lbs.

I don't know if anyone else has felt this but sometimes I feel like spirits or ghosts or something like that are in hunting areas. Every now and then I swear I see shadows out of the corners of my eyes. That freaks me out

I think everyone who hunts alone in wooded ares gets that feeling once in a while. I think we're right ot follow our intuition and gut feeling. It is instinctive.
It's usually strange sounds that get my attention first.

yup good you left. I always (well 90%) always hunt with one or two other people. We are all pretty big guys with lesch/garrett diggers and shovels so it's pretty safe. We also usually have knives and at least one machette. Since we are in Canada we don't carry guns. When I am prospecting I carry a firearm as I have a special carry licence to do so. It's just for critters though. Usually safe detecting. Never had any problems here or felt scared detecting. Please be safe!
