Anybody ever get a bad feeling detecting ALONE?

I had an event like that in my own yard here in N. Texas. It was back in 2010 when I just got into the hobby. I happen to be afflected with a terrible sleeping problem and I'd take the detector all hours of the night in my front yard out in the country. Well, I was out one night about 3am, not that uncommon of a time for me. I felt the same sensation of being watched or stalked, then later while I was down digging a hole, I thought I saw a flash of something by the treeline out of the corner of my eye. I called it quits and went inside the house.

I bumped into my next door neighbor the next day and asked a question about why he was keeping his horses up front and not letting them range in the back acres and he told me that there were reports that a mountain lion was in the area. I will always wonder if that was what I sensed that night. That was a weird feeling.

Probably another damn Chupacabra.

I was hunting the edge of a school yard, near a small cluster of older homes, and I found a live 357 shell.....odd I thought.

Then I found 4 more in a small little area, and I felt like some one was watching me.....then I get a loud signal in a slight depression, just about the perfect size for a handgun. I was sure it was a pistol. I'm thinking murder weapon....murderer lives across the street....possibly watching me.....do I want to retrieve it?

I marked the spot, and came back a year or so later when I figured I was just imagining things, and the target was gone.

Any reason 5 live rounds would be there?

Not really scared, but cautious.

5 loose .357 Rounds?

Assuming you mean Magnum and not Sig, I'm betting someone didn't believe in speedloaders and flipped a full cylinder at the spot... maybe the loud signal was the aluminum thumb spindle OF a speedloader, haha.

Well my dog weighs about 9 pounds so I would have to protect him. LOL But. he would let me know if someone or something was there. But seriously, it was not a nice feeling and I am taking a close look at 74 yrs. old. Not going to outrun anything for sure. I am not a spooky person and have explored these woods alone many times. A first for me.

There is a cure for all that. A double barrel 12 gauge coach gun, cut down to backpack size. Calms you down pretty quick. Sort of a tradition among us old, semi-blind, excitable Texans...

I've felt "eyes" on me too. Was sunning in the back yard one day, I got that feeling I'm being watched. I look over at the neighbors RV shed roof, there's Ms. Suzie, a cross-eyed Siamese/Burmese of my neighhbors, I figured she like cock-eyed Jr, ya couldn't tell what she looking at, them eyes all crossed, so I say, "Hey Ms. Suzie, what ya up to"?, then laid back in my chair.



Well, I still had that feeling, I looked back up at Ms. Suzie, shes licking herself or something...... lol. Something/myself told me to turn around and look. When I did, there was my steroided out body builder neighbor, squatting at the fence with a pair of binoculars., I cussed him out, told him they sell magazines at the corner store for his issues, and If I EVER, and he better be glad my husband......
He actually committed suicide about a yr or so later. Trust your gut.
The feeling was SO strong, I wondered if the binoculars, had amplified it. LOL.

I have left a park in a "questionable" part of town, upon getting that heebie jeebie feeling. Detected it for a while, no problem. After a while have a "feeling" come over me, nah..... it's time to go!

Occasionally. Just normal heebie-jeebies. Goes back to the days when saber-toothed tigers took care of our cousins that didn't stay a little paranoid.

One day I had a feeling I was being watched - and I about jumped out of my skin when I saw eyes on a tree - well, in a tree. By the time I got my camera deployed he had flown to a different tree. Nice, big 'ol owl.

I wear a Detector-Pro Rattler headphone - one ear. Even in parks, usually. That lets me keep an ear out for surprises.

Had the same thing happen to me, twice. An owl once, and a fox another time. I was squirrel hunting both times. Neither time did either animal make a sound, just "felt" them watching me. Sounds crazy I know, but it's like another sense! Maybe in our busy, noisy modern lives it just just gets drowned out! Wonder if everybody has it, if it's just more repressed in some people than others In any case, OJG, if you felt like "something" was watching you, "something" probably was. I also use the rattler headphones, they work great, love mine. I tend to get wrapped up in the things that I do and find myself out and about with night falling on me before I realize it. It's good to be able to hear the surroundings with one ear. Heck, that goes for some of the places I hunt, even in the midday sun lol! Take care & HH!!!

My wife and I used to hike in the Sierra's quite often and twice we were stalked, once by a cougar and the second time was a curious and pretty rarely seen lynx almost didn't spot him because he froze and he blended in perfectly but we felt them both, your instincts let you know what you sometimes can't see it's our (the human's) primal side.

Yeah, anytime I'm out and get that feeling it's time to move on to another place, especially if I'm by myself in the woods. No questions asked, as I trust my intuition.

Ya, go with your gut. I have rarely had a bad feeling about a spot out in the country, but then it's mostly open land around here. But if I am in the northern bear country I will bypass areas that are too dense with cover, particularly in the spring when momma has cubs. The only times that I have been worried were usually when I am detecting really old, seedy, run down neighborhoods. If the vibe is too rough, I leave.

As far as just having a digger with you isn't enough to protect yourself if a person is (skilled) at stalking someone or if hopped up on drugs youre in trouble especially a woman,or with 3-4 young boys watching you in a bad park.I've bin to florida about 9 times to hunt the beach and you get a lot of people watching you and people coming up and asking questions and bugging you.kinda always made me feel unconfortable or some one follow you for a while and just watching !!! rwd mo

I've had that happen one time that I can recall. I was detecting at a very secluded organizational campground in the late fall after it was closed. Well I was down on my knees hunched into that ball shape trying to recover what turned out to be a 1940's Canadian penny. As I was grabbing the pinpointer all of a sudden my hair went up on my neck and I had a sense of imminent danger. That caused me to straighten up on my knees, I pulled my headphones off and heard some crunching of leaves and twigs behind me. I turned and some dude that was about 90 feet from me and walking towards me, while carrying a large stick, looked like a club not a walking stick. At that point I stood up to reveal my giant size..I'm almost 7 foot and the size of refrigerator Perry. That and l had my lesche in hand which caused a awkward moment. The guy stopped dead in his tracks, he stared at me about 12 seconds, I was glaring at him. Guy turned around and walked back into the woods from where he came.
I thought about following him, but decided against it. I stayed detecting that day for several more hours but just kept a good eye trained on the woods that surrounded that location.

I get that feeling that I am being watched sometimes. Just the other day I had that feeling in the woods. I looked up a few times and saw nothing. I continued to work this site. Then I looked up and there was a pitbull staring at me from 30' away. I had a machete and my shovel. Luckily he scared easily. Wheeew.

Way too paranoid! Its true, it could have been a weapon used in crimes. But you could be the hero, recover it, report it to the local law enforcement, and who knows, maybe it helps them open up some cold cases!

You would be paranoid too if everyone was out to get YOU!

It is real. If you have ever had it happen. You actually feel afraid. I think it is a sixth sense. Don't know if anything was out there, but now am afraid to go again by myself. Hate that. We live in Jersey, so no gun carrying here. We have no big cats, bears, bob cats or lynx. Wish we did! And the woods is fairly open where I was hunting. Some patches of laurel for sure. Anyway put the scare in this old lady. Glad I posted though. Am enjoying the stories and am glad I am not crazy here. Not the only one this has happened to.

Yup I have gotten that feeling before but not while detecting, just at odd times.,almost like wherever I am I'm not "meant" to be there for whatever reason. I usually trust my instinct and leave the area. I believe in guardian angels and believe that sometimes they may warn you of impending danger.

I'll tell you what's worse - when I stumble upon a new spot, usually in the middle of the woods somewhere, I just KNOW something good is going to be dug. Get a huge silver signal, and at that very moment when I begin digging { looking over my shoulders every 2 seconds } I feel like flocks and flocks of people are going to appear out of nowhere, and tell me I can't dig there and totally spoil my moment of glory.
