Anyone live in Polk Co? This could be your big one! Anyone hear anything about this cache?

No i have not heard of it....But that could be were all the indians got there start up money for all there gambling Casino's.....

I lived in that area as a kid and there are several variants of the story. Some say the Spanish mined the gold a little further south and pissed the indians off over the matter.... hence the attack.

Lakemonster, This story came out about '70, The spanish prospectors were headed south to tie in with the old spanish trail. The map has a lot of info You can enlarge it by clicking on it. Those marked trees were supposed to show the location of the cache. More than likely by tree #4 if the symbles follow standards of the time. This looks like a good one for someone in the area.

frankn, your story is so reminiscent of the reams of "lost mine" and "lost military payroll" type stories that sold so many treasure magazines in the '60s and '70s. Same old yarns about "the lone survivor of an indian attack told these 3 clues before succumbing to his injuries" blah blah blah. Throw in a picture of a miner posed next to a buro, a few x-marks-the-spots maps, and the imaginations run wild A buddy of mine sent in a story and had it published in one of the mag's at the time, which was totally made up, from the start. Why? 'cuz you got $100 for each accepted article they published. Doh!

well this is pretty cool. I just found this sight recently. I live in Hot Springs right there with you Tox! I just got a new Garrett 350 and some spots and some old houses near me I'm ready to go check out. My girlfriend has been getting rather bored watching me walk around swinging a detector while she plays with sticks. Maybe we can get together sometime and go hunting. especially for Spanish gold!

I'm aware of no gold mines in Arkansas - though I'm from the northern part of the state.

I found it on Google Earth with a little searching, did not pull it up on Garmin MapSource. I did not write down coordinates.
