I have posted more than once on the thread. On Friday i went out with a guy that had an E-Trac. I have to say it was a nice machine and he found more than I did. As far as trash goes he found as much as I did. On depth he did better than me. Anything 2"-4" I found as much as him. His machine more closely identified what he was hitting on than the ATP but I would expect that from that class of dectector.

Would i buy an E-Trac over my ATP. I may if I had a much better area to hunt and more places. As far as price difference goes the ATP held it's own very well. Some of the signals the E-Trac picked up I tried and my ATP was silent. The guy i was with was impressed with my ATP because all he ever heard was they were junk. I have to say i was impressed with his E-Trac as well.

We spent more time trying to refine our techniques than anything and learning from each other. At the end of the day the E-Trac found $6.97 in clad and one silver pendent. My ATP found $5.21 in clad and no jewelry. We were out for about 2-1/2 hours.

I love reading about others experiences and tricks they have learned using detectors. I have learned as much if not more from guys using other brands than i have from the ATP owners. It's all good.

Good post. In my opinion it should be the last one of this thread. Well, second to last now, but you know what I mean.

I just picked the AT Pro for some trashy areas I want to try and search - Paid $600 so far works good but not in salt water - I wanted another water proof machine for general purposes.
I have found a few pennies and dimes well in the 14" range and the pin pointer is damn accurate - At this point I would say it's worth the price and I can set it to coin mode and hand it to my spouse when she wants to tag along ( She can barely work the garage door opener) I only use the custom pro mode myself. I am water hunter so I normally use my Mark II but I wanted relic hunter too. I'll use it for a few more weeks and give my opinion again, hopefully I'm still happy. Garrett doesn't give me any freebies so my opinion can be trusted for what it's worth LOL. I find most negative feed back is pilot error unless the machine is just broken! I can even take my Mothers $100 radio shack special and find treasure/junk. You can't compare $100 to $600 to $1800 dollar machines.
try using freq 4 and sensitivity 3 to 4 notches down from max thats what works for me in salt water good digging

Great info aling with that what seems to work very well with the pro & aswell as my other detectors run ur coil cable straight up along the lower rod velcro or tape it then start winding it from there it'll make it quite as a Mouse

Do you tape your coil cable on your V3i as well? Havent tried that yet

Yup & did it on my prism 4 when I had it really does quite it down & u get less falsing

Nice I will give it a try.

Ull b impressed simple things go far let me know

I'm going to give this coil wrap tip a try! Have you ever noticed if it affects depth in any way?

No same depth I havent noticed any loss just a quieter more stable detector with less falsing & less ghost signals, I mean really what does anyone have to lose dont cost nothing already there lol good luck

I still have a Garrett Groundhog that will knock the socks off!! Before most of you were born, but the new AT Pro I have will smoke it a half the price of some of those "sooped up" expensive machines!! G Garrett!!

Thats what us garrett users do ...we go in and clear the way for the real metal detectors theres no bottle cap too big or small it sniffs out them all lol

yes! charlie made sure of that!..ehe! he! he!
super "bell tone" on screw caps! open your own aluminum salvage yard!

Oh, I don't hate the AT Pro. I do make fun. Garret makes some fine products, I own some. The shows depending on your likes are entertaining, and the one is also educational as it has gave me some good hints on where to hunt. I actually think the hobby would have benefitted if the shows would use a T2 also. As for rain, I carry a few Walmart bags when out in the wilderness, they do just fine. The bath joke makes me laugh sorry for that pun. The F75 would be a disappointment to a new person in the hobby. I don't think it would have benefitted the hobby to show this unit. A new dig show coming out actually has what appears to be a F75, and that will be good fun watching all the other detectors keep up. But I had a time learning the F75, and still am. Im sure the AT Pro is all the detector one would ever need, but Im waiting for one of you AT Pro yahoo's to show up at one of the local parks......I have a gopro attached to my detector. Im gonna film it lol. Its all about having fun, can someone please post a pic of you and your AT in the bathtub, lots of bubbles please, this is a family oriented site. Why cant they put Digger Dan on tv, wait, he used AT Pro too. That's not helping my argument. I really like Digger Dan. I hope I have challenged a few AT Pro users to step up and post some honest feed back on the AT Pro, as I cant buy one based on some of the claims made in this thread.

f-75 sounds like a "hyper" maniac on steroids plastic crap. loves (e.m.i.)
at the very least, they should provide some decent shielding for 1 large.

Really I thought we left the drama behind y look at old posts & try & stir the por back up its been cool here for awhile no drama everyone just doin what the site was made for talking about finds detectors ad ons no drama bro outs people in crappy moods just not worth it

I tried the running my coil wire straight up then wrapping it. It seems to help. But I still get some strange signals... Is it normal for a soda can at 6+ inches to ring up at 2in and seen quarter size on pinpoint?

Its gonna really pend on how the can is in the ground how its crushed etc it may have also been see in the top thinking it was a quarter or something try doin this when u pinpoint do a x motion that should easily size it for u, ah u could for heck of change the frequency or I mean u got nothing to lose do a factory reset i mean u arent gonna hurt anything, also make sure ur connection at the power Box is in all the way oring is in nice &tight

Well, I just registered a new account since I forgot my username from before and this thread caught my eye. I didn't read all your responses as I can tell there's a couple of the rich acting types here downing a detector that's pretty good for it's price point. Let me explain why the AT Pro isn't so bad in ten easily read points.

1 - It's light
2 - It's affordable
3 - It's waterproof to an extent. (Not as deep or good as I'd like)
4 - It's tones aren't too bad, I've heard worse.
5 - Tone ID works well for me, and I have a lot of canslaw along with many bottle tops in areas I hunt for fun.
6 - It's a monster for bullets from various historic sites.
7 - It's awesome for coin shooting.
8 - It's easy to learn and program.
9 - Has some good accessory coils
10 - It's rugged. If you break it, you're doing something wrong.

Now, all of you guys with your fancy Fishers, you do know that the Fisher brand was bought out by First Texas Products around 2006 correct? In my opinion, they haven't been the same since. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing First Texas Products though. Let's just say they also make some extremely low end detectors that would make me dig random holes without a metal detector at all before trusting them. Some are at Wal-Mart.

The priceless Anglo-Saxon treasure was found with a $20 (EURO) garage sale detector in a random field, by a newbie who was down on his luck beforehand. Any detector will find what one defines as treasure, although they will all find bottle caps too. You know when you guys skip over bottle caps and notch them out, you're also missing things that someone with a $20 (EURO) detector may find right behind you if you catch my drift. If you want to brag about you're awesome detectors and all of that jazz, why don't you guys get an OKM? I bet many of you will say "it's expensive, I can't afford their high end products of $15,000-$30,000!

Stop bashing users for being happy with their AT Pros! If you had the money to go out and throw on a top tier Minelab; awesome! It doesn't make you any better of a treasure seeker. In fact, it kind of reminds me of children growing up in school who don't run out and buy a $150 pair of sneakers when they come out. You know that type don't you guys? "Ew, he has Wal-Mart shoes/clothes on!" Well, some of the comments I have read on this forum bashing people, even if for fun about bottle caps etc, remind me of the rich school type. What's wrong with finding bottle caps anyway? At least when you find them, you can remove them and make the Earth happier.

Here's a link for OKM for you guys to check out. I highly doubt many of you have it, and yes, they are much better than the AT Pro, E-Trac, etc. But can you afford it most likely for a hobby? No. They're used for professional treasure hunters and ship wrecks. The 3D software is amazing, and most hobby detectors won't even connect to computers. Link

You tell them Sheldon

My favorite part-

" I didn't read all your responses as I can tell there's a couple of the rich acting types here "

You're smart enough to know what we think without reading our comments? Psychic are you? Read our thoughts? Lol

I'm surprised you even need a metal detector at all, seems to me you are some all knowing, all powerful being. But for some reason you want to single out Fisher owners for being the main "haters" on the thread- yeah we're not. You need to READ THE POSTS HERE.

I will agree with you that there seem to be at least 2 people that frequent treasurenet that seem to have a "holier than thou" attitude because they (at least give the impression) can afford any MD out there. I can't say for sure- but neither of the 2 specific people I have in mind swing Fishers, or any of the products under the 1st Texas umbrella. But honestly, your post in my eyes, puts you in the same boat with them.

The 2 types that annoy me most on Tnet?

1) the ones who can afford anything and make sure you know it (or at least want convince us they can).

2) the ones who already know everything.

I'll quickly tell everyone here I fall into neither category.....but..... I'd rather be a nice guy, who's poor, with average intelligence- than a rich prick who knows everything.

Going back to Garrett and Fisher......You said it yourself, 1st Texas owns Fisher as of 2006, and everybody knows that 1T just makes a bunch of toys right? So how many fishers have you owned that were made before 2006? More importantly, how many have you owned that were made after 2006? -since they just aren't the same...... maybe you could provide all of us with some specific examples of how exactly the quality has dropped since "they haven't been the same since".

I'll say it again for the record- it is my opinion that the Garrett AT Pro is an excellent detector, especially for the money / features. I say this as just an average hobby detectorist. I don't claim to be an expert in any shape, form, or fashion.

I'm a rich acting fisher type I guess - whatever that even means?!?!
