AT haters.

My favorite part-

" I didn't read all your responses as I can tell there's a couple of the rich acting types here "

You're smart enough to know what we think without reading our comments? Psychic are you? Read our thoughts? Lol

I'm surprised you even need a metal detector at all, seems to me you are some all knowing, all powerful being. But for some reason you want to single out Fisher owners for being the main "haters" on the thread- yeah we're not. You need to READ THE POSTS HERE.

I will agree with you that there seem to be at least 2 people that frequent treasurenet that seem to have a "holier than thou" attitude because they (at least give the impression) can afford any MD out there. I can't say for sure- but neither of the 2 specific people I have in mind swing Fishers, or any of the products under the 1st Texas umbrella. But honestly, your post in my eyes, puts you in the same boat with them.

The 2 types that annoy me most on Tnet?

1) the ones who can afford anything and make sure you know it (or at least want convince us they can).

2) the ones who already know everything.

I'll quickly tell everyone here I fall into neither category.....but..... I'd rather be a nice guy, who's poor, with average intelligence- than a rich prick who knows everything.

Going back to Garrett and Fisher......You said it yourself, 1st Texas owns Fisher as of 2006, and everybody knows that 1T just makes a bunch of toys right? So how many fishers have you owned that were made before 2006? More importantly, how many have you owned that were made after 2006? -since they just aren't the same...... maybe you could provide all of us with some specific examples of how exactly the quality has dropped since "they haven't been the same since".

I'll say it again for the record- it is my opinion that the Garrett AT Pro is an excellent detector, especially for the money / features. I say this as just an average hobby detectorist. I don't claim to be an expert in any shape, form, or fashion.

I'm a rich acting fisher type I guess - whatever that even means?!?!

I'm going to refrain from getting much into this. You use a Fisher? Cool. Never said they were all bad or expensive. I read through page 6 of the thread and there were enough bottle cap jokes to last myself a lifetime. I still swing the 1225-x sometimes to answer your question. I never claimed to know everything, but I do know my share. The fact you gave me this long post when I was defending a detector you support mystifies me though.

It's all good, I'm not here to start trouble. Just posting in this thread to give my opinion on the AT Pro.

115 Canadian silver coins and some US silvers plus 9 gold rings and many silver rings about $ 200 in clad- that's my last year finds and first year using AT Pro.( I found silver coins first day out) no learning curve . My expensive detectors having a "siesta" Peace to all from Saskatchewan.

Lol well done I was excited finding my first silver

Well it has been a while since I have made a post here. So let me put some folks in their place.

It has been asked how many pre 2006 First Texas machines do I own. Well I am a poor man so I only own one. A Pioneer 202 Bounty Hunter. I hate to say it, but that machine could do 90% of my hunting Im doing right now. It most likely was made in the 70's and it still works fine. My brother used it the other day. We are sitting under a shade tree, and he is just scrubbing the grass with it sitting there. He pulled up 6 coins doing so lol. I really was surprised.

Now I broke down and bought a Garret Propointer. Now I own two garret products. The darn thing started going beep crazy about week after I had it. I was told it was normal, it was a energy saving feature, and so you wouldn't loose it in the weeds. I am not making this up. This is a established product built with a lil drift in it to make it better loooool. I feel sorry for all the new ATX users.

When the propointer works. It is a amazing lil pin pointer you cant do without. When it works.Thats all I have to say about that.

Well, I just registered a new account since I forgot my username from before and this thread caught my eye. I didn't read all your responses as I can tell there's a couple of the rich acting types here downing a detector that's pretty good for it's price point. Let me explain why the AT Pro isn't so bad in ten easily read points.

1 - It's light
2 - It's affordable
3 - It's waterproof to an extent. (Not as deep or good as I'd like)
4 - It's tones aren't too bad, I've heard worse.
5 - Tone ID works well for me, and I have a lot of canslaw along with many bottle tops in areas I hunt for fun.
6 - It's a monster for bullets from various historic sites.
7 - It's awesome for coin shooting.
8 - It's easy to learn and program.
9 - Has some good accessory coils
10 - It's rugged. If you break it, you're doing something wrong.

Now, all of you guys with your fancy Fishers, you do know that the Fisher brand was bought out by First Texas Products around 2006 correct? In my opinion, they haven't been the same since. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing First Texas Products though. Let's just say they also make some extremely low end detectors that would make me dig random holes without a metal detector at all before trusting them. Some are at Wal-Mart.

The priceless Anglo-Saxon treasure was found with a $20 (EURO) garage sale detector in a random field, by a newbie who was down on his luck beforehand. Any detector will find what one defines as treasure, although they will all find bottle caps too. You know when you guys skip over bottle caps and notch them out, you're also missing things that someone with a $20 (EURO) detector may find right behind you if you catch my drift. If you want to brag about you're awesome detectors and all of that jazz, why don't you guys get an OKM? I bet many of you will say "it's expensive, I can't afford their high end products of $15,000-$30,000!

Stop bashing users for being happy with their AT Pros! If you had the money to go out and throw on a top tier Minelab; awesome! It doesn't make you any better of a treasure seeker. In fact, it kind of reminds me of children growing up in school who don't run out and buy a $150 pair of sneakers when they come out. You know that type don't you guys? "Ew, he has Wal-Mart shoes/clothes on!" Well, some of the comments I have read on this forum bashing people, even if for fun about bottle caps etc, remind me of the rich school type. What's wrong with finding bottle caps anyway? At least when you find them, you can remove them and make the Earth happier.

Here's a link for OKM for you guys to check out. I highly doubt many of you have it, and yes, they are much better than the AT Pro, E-Trac, etc. But can you afford it most likely for a hobby? No. They're used for professional treasure hunters and ship wrecks. The 3D software is amazing, and most hobby detectors won't even connect to computers. Link

OKM makes some great stuff. I hope to own one someday. The new ATX may help folks like me who cant afford the OKM. My fisher was on sale, it was a bargain. I got lucky I found it. With 500 settings, it will run naked and bark at the moon if I wanted it too. I just want to meet one guy who owns a AT Pro so I can make fun of him too, lol. Not really, we are helpful bunch here where I live. The whites guys are cleaning up my spots.............what can I say. This is a AT thread. I see no one posted a picture of them with their AT Pro in the bath tub yet. I was hoping for a female response there. Ok Guys, lets have it.

Yes u are right the majority of the new show is his choice of the f75 its what he's been using for a long time I think my v3i would have not one issue against a f75

In the hands of a experience user, a Whites will eat your lunch and make you work for it to keep up. I dont own one, nor used one. But I have hunted with folks who do. The V3I is one of the machines I am considering replacing my F75, if and when I ever get a lil cash saved up. I would have to demand the time and place be if my choosing to go head to head with your V3I. I have a few spots that would make you work lol.

I cant believe this crap is still going on, as a new comer to the hobby and this forum, its BS like this that makes me not want to be part of a community such as this. You people need to get off your high dollar machines and get out and dig, and stop pissing on the parade of those who choose an MD that doesn't suit your fancy. Get over yourselves already will you.

But then I should tread lightly here, some may be opposed to my comments and put me in the time out chair again.
Yea what he said. Wait a minute, he is talking about me.....snicker. I have a love hate relationship with the F75. It didnt cost much more than your AT Pro as I picked it up used. I hear now they have one with a Power Boost mode. I can honestly say I dont know what the heck they are looking for that deep. But the proof is in the pudding. A Lot and I mean a lot of folks who post videos use the AT Pro or gold. They find neat stuff. I personally dont like what stuff looks like after it has been in the water a while.

Oh dont get me wrong, the atpro has broad iron scrim resolution and you can notch out anything and everything very effectively with it, just like all metal detectors. All good metal detectors hit rust hard but they can all scrim out iron if you wish. I like to hunt zero scrim everywhere, trash or not.

This one action will increase your keepers and pay for your machine. No matter what machine you use. While the F75 is very good with id on the bottle caps. I try to cart out what I can because I will be back. I have several tot lots all nice and clean for the whites guys who love taking my clad lol.

When I was looking for a gold detector I checked out the older models but decided on the Garrett AT Gold. It sure was a good decision and I don't have to give any money to a hate group. I have tried to decide what the best feature on the ATG is but I really can't decide because I like everything. I suspect the one feature the competition hates is the one they try to attack--it's ability to eliminate bottle caps. It is so easy to hit the Iron Discrimination button and like the instructional video says, there is doubt it's a bottle cap. I've hunted for four hours in a city park and never dug one bottle cap. I have dug one or two mainly when I forgot to check them with the Iron Discrimination. I've said it's a good machine to go into a bottle cap infested area where no other machine can go.

We sometimes put blinders on. The iron disc in the AT series is excellent and one of its good points. To say your machine is the only one that can go into a bottle cap infestation is wrong. I dont even have to change coils as the signal wrap off the coil will punch through trash and grab targets I would miss with my older machine. Im sure the new machines out there could disc out caps also. It comes down to options. I can poke fun all day, but the Iron disc is really a important part of the machine. AT series has that. My beef is with the wild claims or the shows promoting the machines as the only machine. I would never suggest anyone get a F75 for a first machine. Im not sure what they were planning for when they made the F75, but you have options. I still hunt in same two modes and do ok. The AT Pro is dumbed down or up depending on what you are comparing it with.

Casca if & when u do decide to get the v3i ull definetly like it I dont know what ur preference is on coil choices down the road but I would definetly recomend the sef coils

No one should put any machine down unless they've owned it and know it inside out. Or at least tried one to a point of getting the hang of it.
I made that mistake with Tesoro's before and I had never used one. My thought was that they're dinosaur looking and must have old technology.

I started back in '98 with a Garrett GTAx1000 and really liked it. Excellent starter machine. After awhile I wanted a different machine and dreamed of a GTI 2500. Several years later I finally got one and also an Explorer SE.
I owned the GTI for over 5 years, knew it inside out and can say it was a major let down. Way over priced and under achieving for this machine.
I've had a Garrett pro pointer for almost 6 years and I love it. Never had a problem with it once. Never had mine sound off and go crazy. But then again I don't jam it into holes and use it as a digging tool as I've seen some people do.

I can't comment on either AT machine because I've never tried one. But.....I was kinda against them because of 2 fellas I kinda know just from seeing them around had problems with theirs. Both guys had them leak and both had to send them in to be repaired. One of them also had the arm cuff break off.
Plus reading about the same problems from other people here and other places just made me think that I wouldn't want one.
Seems like Garrett has addressed those problems and I'm going to get an AT Gold next year.

For the last 5 plus years I had 3 machines to choose from to out detecting. 80% of the time I used the Explorer with the other 20% on my 2 Garrett's.
I sold all 3 of those in July and bought a Tesoro Outlaw, and I don't regret it at all. This is the best machine I've ever owned. Once you get it, it is a killer.
I thought for sure my next machine would've been an E Trac. I got to try one and had the hang of it and I really didn't like it. Not saying it's a bad machine, it just wasn't for me.

I've tried a Whites Spectrum XLT, Fisher F4, Tesoro Vaquero and really liked them all. So I'm very open minded to different makes and models.
Personally, I wouldn't drop over $1500 on a single detector. But that's just me. If someone wants one of those high priced machines then go for it. I wouldn't bash them because everyone is different. I'd love to try some of those (ATX, CTX 3030, Deus, V3i) just to see what they're about. Who knows. Maybe I'd fall in love with one of those and change my mind.
But for me I'm set on adding a Tesoro Tiger Shark, Tejon and an AT Gold to my arsenal by next May. If I get my diving cert. which my buddy has and who is bugging me to get, then the Tiger Shark will be used, plus at fresh water beaches. The Tejon gets killer depth and the Gold for wet weather, creeks, etc.
After using the F4 I looked into Fisher and feel that the F5 would suit me and if I ever see an used XLT I'd probably buy it.

I do have a question for AT users.
It seems like 90% of the AT's out there are Pro's and was wondering if anyone of those guys looked into an AT Gold at all?

....

Iron audio gives a clear signal when its a bottle cap, if you dig them then thats your issue, dont blame the machine for lack of your skill.

Yup!...At first i didnt like the fact it picked them up...but it was my ignorance not using Iron Audio...Now i rarely pick them...Pretty much only dig them when Im at a place that i dig EVERYTHING deep

Iron Audio, what is that and how does it work? I dont understand the reasoning you would not dig some of the trash if its a area you will search on a regular basis?

Ever wonder how many times we have passed over a good target because we just knew it was foil or a pull tab?

Iron Audio is the feature that lets you hear the difference between Iron from Coins, because sometimes Bottle Caps will read in teh coin range becuse of its shape, thou it sounds a little different, But when you put on the Iron Auido, it phases it out. And as for digging some of the trash...I pretty much dig ALL the trash...if im in an area looking for gold..I dig all the junky Gold Signals...if im looking for old coins..then i will dig these Bottle Caps signals...I have my way of detecting in Phases, and it works perfeclty for me

ALOT!..lol...really thou....when im in a Gold Mood....I dig all the Foil and Pulltab signals....depending on the area

Gee....guess im NOT the only one that has zip-zip phases....lol...."Yeah.....like that 12VDI on my V3i is really gold."i aint diggin that....its just more foil anyway"......lol
Seriously though, i own a V3i, XLT, An AT pro international, a Vaquero and a DeLeon....they all have there purposes.......Each person is different.....please dont ask which one is my favorite....thats like asking a mother what her favorite child is.....lol
