AT haters.

Ronzie,
I went with the AT Pro instead of the AT Gold based on price, features and being able to get it wet to ten feet. It's light weight was a plus too!
I had called kellyco, to ask which one would be best for beach and shallow water, and they said the AT pro and not the AT Gold.
So I went with the Pro.
My decision to buy the AT Pro was based on my own research and was not influenced by the "Diggers" show on TV! I had ordered the Pro prior to finding out about the show.
How do I like it? I love it! In the first five minutes of use I found my first item!
A very old rusty nail at 12-14" Lol! I had the Pro in "Standard Mode" and I was surprised to find the nail was that deep!
Best of Luck!

It's good to hear about the depth of both models. The GTI 2500 was good to 8", more on a large target. My Outlaw maxs out at 11" with the stock 8" coil.
The true all metal mode on the Gold is attractive to me after using my Outlaw.

The Gold
WATERPROOF TO 10 FEET OR 3 METERS
Not recommended for saltwater use or surf hunting
AT Gold includes 18kHz frequency for enhanced detection of small gold nuggets, jewelry, coins and relics!

The Pro
WATERPROOF TO 10 FEET OR 3 METERS
Ideal for use in both fresh and saltwater
AT Pro International will ground balance to saltwater.

"I won't buy a machine cause of the kind of sound it makes"... Hike up your pink panties - I've heard it all.

I like the AT Pro for General Hunting here in the County and woods of East Texas... The Ace 350 made a better park and beach only detector.
I am moving into Relic hunting and the Ground Balance feature of the AT Pro is a necessity in the Heavily Mineral and Iron Ore laden ground in most of my state. I have the SS Coil, and the 5x8 for Parks, Beachs, and other trashy areas. I use the stock coils when looking for pastures, church grounds, and other large areas. I have to clean my coil and coil cover frequently due to the mineralized sand and dirt here. If I don't clean it regularly I get frequent noise blips. I reset almost every different county to cancel any variations in my GB settings. I haven't epoxied my coil cover or pro pointer, and do not plan to being that the covers are reasonable at my local shop. If I am Relic hunting it is usually large coil on Zero in Std so I won't miss anything historic. I use Pro Mode at the Park or Beach to filter the trash with Iron starting at 25 and sliding up. I have only had my ATP a few weeks so I am an ATP novice but had a CoinMaster for around 20 years previous. I am looking for some partners now to learn from, but I have a rotating schedule and it makes partnering tricky when my weekend is Monday to Thursday like this week.

LOL...would you buy it if it sounded liked this?

Haha, that's pretty rough.

I post that generically and not to single any one out - the reason I didn't quote anyone. It reminds me of a car I liked and the wife said we weren't going to buy it cause she didn't like the sound of the horn. We, in fact, bought the car and she loved it.

I prefer the beep dig mode on my walmart bounty hunter.

I wanna tecter that will make the coins pop out of the ground and leap forth into my open pouch and stuff.

I think the best detector is the one sitting in your trunk with the batteries fully charged :-)

Or the one swinging over that buried Morgan!

Its not the size of the coil that counts, beep beep beep.

Mod I tried to pm but you don't have that option. But just a qestion why hasn't this thread been closed due to many rule violations like just plain hatefulness to other members, mocking the thread, just a question. But this thrrad was even refered to by you in another thread posting on a diffrent subject category and the rules were eveN posted and this thread named by name for the reason of posting the rules. Like I said when you go t your profile on the web page then click your name there's no way to contact you in private so sorry to ask on a open thread.not trying to start anything just wondering.

I am receiving PMs from other members so don't know what your issue is in not being able to pm me..

Thread was started by AT fan, not a hater. There is no reason to lock thread at this time.

It has bean a long time since I have posted on this site but I still glance at it now and then a lot of good information.

I scanned through these threads on the Garrett AT Pro and all I can say is this.. No detector is perfect and all detectors can be fooled by bottle caps and no detector works right if the operator does not understand how to set up or use the features of the detctor correctly.

I have detected for a long long time over 20 years now and have used many detectors Whites DFX,XLT,MXT,XL Pro,M6 the Fisher CZ70,Coin Strike, Gold Bug Pro DP the Tesoro Vagero & Tejon the Garrett AT Pro, my son's Ace 250, the GTI 1500 the Compass coin scanner and a few others. They all have one thing in common, that is LEARN The Detector.

My Garrett AT Pro hunts very well in all types of inviroments. For the price dollar for dollar it is one of the better detctors I have owned to date in iron trash besides the Fisher Gold Bug Pro DP and it is my go to detector to date for general hunting situations.

For those who have real trouble with bottle caps and pinpointing learn the detector. The AT Pro with the iron discrimination if used right does one heck of a job helping with bottle cap ID, (aluminum ones are just trouble for all detectors period) great detector in iron trash the key thing is to ground balance these detectors properly ( this is a fact period with the AT Pro and every other detector I mentioned except the Ace 250 it's a fixed ground balance machine) This is a common problem with detectors like the AT Pro. The big big problem is guys come from a fixed balance style detectors or auto balance type to a detector like the AT Pro with a very good pro ground balance system that is capable of ground balancing in all types of ground situations. Then they do not set it up right or ground balnce correctly not uderstanding how to ground balance then sit back and ***** because the detector does not perform right.

As far as pinpointing the detector is spot on and I have every coil available for it DD & concentric and there all good at pinpointing. All I can say is those who can not pinpoint with this detector needs to learn how to pinpoint with a DD coil or how to properly pinpoint period, these detectors are pretty spot on here.

Not to offend anyone here but in the big picture learn the detector and if it's not for you move on to a detector that is. For those of you that rag on on the AT Pro there is just to much proof out there to prove otherwise about the detector. It is a top 10 or #1 seller for a reason other than just hype.

I also purchased mine before I ever saw the show Diggers, oh well He He!!!!!

Please forgive any spelling errors, thanks.

Best Regards To All,
Bill G

Okay, so after reading through the 15 pages of this thread, it appears that some people really like the AT Pro, and others, not so much.

Well, thanks for enlightening me,

Next thread.....

You read all 15 pages?
