At pro in car trunk

I am traveling after work tomorrow and will have my at pro in the car. We are meeting family at a haunted amusement park so the detector will be in my trunk for around 3 hours before we get home that night. Tomorrow the high is 66 and low of 44. Is this a non-issue? Just wondering what temps you all comfortably have your detector in the car trunk

That shouldn't be a problem, but where waterproofing is concerned but I wouldn't take the chance.

Trunk temps can be a lot higher if the car is sitting in the sun. I'd at least pull the battery out. They don't like heat at all.

You can test it by putting your wife in the trunk of your car, if her tongue is hanging out after an hour without water. Don't put your detector in the trunk.

LOL just kidding and please don't show it to your wife.

Some people metal detect in the winter snowy areas, so I doubt 44 will have any harm to it at all.

Thanks for your responses. Some mentioned temps too hot but I'm more concerned of cold temps. This is after work so the sun will be down. I could keep it in the back seat if it would be better

You should remove the battery pack if it is going to be real cold or hot. But not for your time. Have fun.

If that's the case, it's a non-issue. Keep it in the trunk for security reasons. No use inviting someone to break out a window and steal your detector.

Key word in Garretts' quote "Storing" ... using in extreme Heat or Sub-freezing should not be a problem

It would have to get REALLY cold. Don't forget, many of these machine (and other electronic devices) are transported everyday in trucks in all sorts of weather conditions. They really can take a lot more weather-wise than one might think.

I leave my tecters in the car winter, spring, summer and autumn. With the batteries in 'em. Ready to go. I cant help it.

As a former electronics maintenance person in the Air Force, I can tell you heat is a much greater threat to any electronics component. High temps will begin to break down the material of some. I would think using one of those weather covers in desert temps would shorten the life as it keeps the heat in produced by electrical current. We actually had climate control in our communication vans for the equipment. It made other job classes a bit jealous, lol. It's been awhile but I believe 68 degrees F was the temp we tried to keep.

Great info Old Dude. I always suspected those pretty covers might do doing more harm than good.

If it's hot and sunny, you really don't need the cover anyway........it's mainly for rain.
