AT PRO trouble

From what I heard the AT PRO is a great machine but I am getting frustrated with its depth.... It wouldn't pick up a silver dime at no more than 6 inches on full sensitivity.. I'm about to sell it for something better... any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I am in a silver slump, only finding the yellow stuff lately. But this made me laugh, so I am sharing.

a few weeks ago met a couple guys who were using the at pro gold and the at pro with the 5x8 coil on it, we all were working a play ground ay a park, I hit on a target ,which I thought was a dime, at about 9-10 inches with my etrac and had them come over and to see if they could pick up the target, neither one could pick it up! I dug it up and yes it was a dime, I put it back in the hole and got my at pro from the truck, the best I could get on it was just a slight/ not solid reading on it, and with no dirt on top of it, the guy with the 5x8 coil still couldnt sense it. I was using pro coin mode with nothing notched out and gb'd, HHand good luck

Thanks for the help guys its probably just me and yes it rained heavy last night here in Ohio. Once I get used to it I will probably be fine.

I don't know how long you've had your ATP but I've only had mine for about a month and a half. One of the things I thought for a couple of weeks after first getting it were "where's the depth?". After putting some time on this machine, I can tell you, it's there and I use the 5x8 exclusively.
I might not be the deepest machine on the block but it doesn't embarrass it's self either.

Ull get there biggest thing is just take ur time & learn as,much as u can on ur machine the items in the ground there not goin anywhere I think alot of the new guys to the hobby move a little to quick from some posts Ive heard but slower more finds to fast ull go right over them & not know they were there. U should fund one spot wheather ur yard a friends yard just somewhere u can go & practice when u get tips or advice just wanna try something, spots like that r great to have I got one & have had it for years & used many machines there, and still pulling out things good things to. Try ground balancing auto, then go back -4 to -5. Sometimes that helps.

My AT Pro can usually give a positive ID on a dime to at least 6", sometimes to 8-10". On silver and old clad coins that are deep and have been in the ground for a long time, this machine doesn't give a good repeatable ID on the target. For example, a clad dime that 8" down, and has been ion the ground for 30 years may bounce around in the zinc penny range. Quarters can sometimes be a little lower too when they are real deep, but my AT Pro loves finding quarters!

These are the common numbers that I get with my AT pro on coins in less than 6 to 8" deep. When the coins are old and real deep, those numbers can be as much as 10 lower, and will vary a lot. Throw a pull tab or nail in the hole with the coin, then your numbers get real crazy.

This SLQ was sandwiched with a Buffalo nickel at around 8-10 inches. My signal was jumping around from the high iron range to the occasional high tone in the penny range. I went over the target swinging slow and in different directions before digging. The signal was acting like a jagged piece of metal siding, but it pinpointed like a coin. I started finding better stuff with my AT Pro when I began digging most targets, not just the ones that show up as a solid ID as a coin. Silver is probably going to be deep, so dig those iffy deep signals, because chances are someone else already cherry picked out the easy shallow targets years ago.

my atpro air tests high pitch on silver dimes at least 6" (I know its more like 7 or 8 but its been a while) and I have found silver dimes and lots of wheats at five and six + inches. Pro mode, max sense, zero notch, 30 iron, you aint got nothin to worry about 6". Try factory reset and if that don't work its kaput.

Yeah I had a bouncy signal that I didn't dig ,but my dad did and it was a silver quarter... so I guess I will have to start digging those signals

I have only found one silver this year and it was a silver dime at about 4in and it rang up solid. I feel like I am missing some possible good targets. Running pro coin full sense. Try pro zero & im assuming ur running iron audio on to keep that when im in the Woods I run it Wide open at a park i notch nothing out & run iron up to around 25-29 just for heck of it try that & c if does anything with those signals ur gettin or still stating faint

Y not to me idk it lets me hear more junk gives me thst more info that i like, basically if im on the edge of a old ballfeild & the Woods looking for coins I dont want nails bang iron audio.is on i tuen it on when I start I know right away watch ah some youtube vids of the iron audio it makes a very big difference in sounds of junk to good targets, now the v3i that thing is just a frigin monster u can do endless things to it more then any other machine made i got mine with a sunray dx-1, probé & I been using both 6x8 sef & 10x12,sef coils on it they r to me in my hunts perfect for what I do i think my arsenal of detectors can handle most of whats thrown at me, theres quite a Curve in learning it cuz theres so much tweeking that can b done but its also very hot right out of the box to good machine if ur thinking of that my latest is the deus xp & wow they did there homework on this one anlther monster way ahead of its time, with most likley goin to b alot of followers trying to get there brands to be fully wireless & try to cut the weight deus it 1.9lbs v3i is like double lol both great & so is the Atpro which is y its in the line up good luck man

Just burying a dime and testing doesnt do anything. It will take a while for a deeper target to register. Your gonna want to hit the 11 inch range, that seems to be the sweet spot here I like to hit. Little things like after a rain, or the type of soil your in can play havoc on depth. Before you sell, try disc or notching out all but say a quarter and then turn up the sens. My detector does well at low sensitivity with no disc or notch. My buddys T2 like a high sensitivity with almost max disc. You just need to dial in a program that works for you. Too many folks having success with the AT Pro, I think you just need dig a few sets of batterys and see what happens.

This pretty much, The AT Pro is a pretty damned advanced detector, maybe a little less sensitive on silver than an Etrac (I have both) but way hotter on gold in my experience. In a fresh test garden you will have no halo effect and depending on soil and ground balance can cut detection easily by a third.
