Got out with Rick(NS) yesterday for a fantastic hunt. Rick got the find of the day for sure with his 4th 2 reale for the year, WTG Rick. But I did pretty good too with some pewter buttons, a Condor token from the late 18th cent. plus 4 toasted coppers, some wedges for rock breaking and a wicked jeweled button piece. I believe it was from a 2 piece button and is silver plated. I thought it was from a Tombac at first but now I don't think so. It is very thin and has a copper back, if there are any button experts out there I would love to hear your thoughts.
If you haven't seen Ricks post of the hunt check out; http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/376930-spanish-silver-good-pewter-i-think.html

Maybe it is a silvered button, but I would have swore (and I like swearing) it was a tombac.

You really should have a good close up of that button, I think it quite special. But you really can't tell being so small in the pic.

I HAVE FOUND A FEW LIKE THAT - MINE LOOK LIKE THEY ACTUALLY HAMMERED A THIN PIECE OF SILVER ONTO THE BRONZE - I WOULD NOT CALL IT PLATED - BUT IT ACTUALLY IS - I COULD PEEL IT OFF INTACT THOUGH - ITS A LITTLE THICKER THAN FOIL - YOURS LOOKS LIKE MAYBE SAME PROCESS

Thanks Casper, that is just what it seems to be. After cleaning it I thought it might be a silver leaf or foil rubbed on it but it is too thick for that.

Very cool finds again Dave, I still say I'm going to knock the dust off my advanced diver certification and join ya in the underworld!

Hey Treblehunter, you can't beat it. Did you see CanDive's last post, he is killing it in the lakes.
I know there are some great finds to be made on the Jersey shores and waters too. Good luck with your hunt today.

Sweet ole button ZDD !
I have a similar button too, although mines gold, a very thick layer of metal on top. I wouldn't necessarily call it plated or washed but more like laminated. Interesting button making back when for sure

Those are some real GREAT FINDS ZDD, CONGRATS for a real great hunt!!!!!

Nice button, and a really nice complete jew's harp. Not too many dug that arent broken.
