Hit a park today after getting the ok from the park manager. I was expecting to find clad or hopefully some silver coins but ended up finding some cool relics. Found a few axe heads, a bullet, a hindge and what seems to be a bolt or a button of some sorts, I dont know. After getting home after about 3 hours of detecting, my wife and I looked up some history on the park. Apparently, this park served as a haven for seminole warriors during the Seminole indian wars and also was a Seminole village throughout the 1800s. One of the rangers came around as asked if we had found anything but told him nothing yet (we walked back to the car and dropped off the heavy axe heads). He told us some guy comes once in a while and metal detects "like professional with all these gadgets and gizmos"....well me with my $50 Big Lots machine still found some cool things and hope to find even better things! Feel free to leave your comments. Also, if anyone has any tips on cleaning up these bad boys let me know. Thanks everyone and HH! :headbang:

Nice finds miamilatin . Thanks for sharing...

Appears to be a 7.62x54 casing. Very common cartridge. A Russian cartridge that came into use in 1891. It is still a very common caliber. As a rule the casing is of no value. Over 17,000,000 Mosin Nagant rifles were produced as well as machineguns that fired the same cartridge, and tons of the surplus Mosin Nagant stuff is still floating around here. I have owned several. The bullet appears to be fired rifle bullet of relatively modern design. Possibly could even be from rifle that left the casing. Impossible to tell without measurements etc and then unlikely because the weight would be a factor and the bullet has probable lost some fragments. Love the old axe heads. Congrats on some neat stuff.:icon_thumleft:

Thanks for your input...im not into guns but its the first shell casing I`ve found, just found it a little odd for it to be less than 100 yards away from a play ground in a park :dontknow:

Your two might be better than mine :) did u find them both at the same site I did

@DIGGYBOY, Im in Florida so i dont think we were at the same location 8-) I found both of them about 5 feet away from each other, then we found the hindge, the garden hoe and the other peices of iron. Im guessing that open area there must of been a shed of some sorts.

Actually I'm pretty sure from the shape of that cartridge that its an 8x50mm Lebel round, for the French Model 1886 Lebel rifle. It was the first smokeless powder cartridge adopted in a rifle by any military in the world. This doesn't necessarily mean yours is that old though, there are still a few companies making the ammo, but it is uncommon. As to it being near a playground, well it wasn't always a play ground, and it's also possible that a kid lost it playing army or something.

The slug is a bit too deformed to id, but is a modern jacketed slug...... I like the axe heads, those are always fun to find.
