I am very new to the hunt and I am loving it. The detector I am using doesn't tell me the metal type but I dug a long pipe out today. Right next to the "pipe" was what looks like an old door knob. I was thinking that the pipe might very well be a barrel to a musket style gun. Any thoughts?

I can't really tell from the photos but does the pipe have a fitting @ the end there?

No, there is no fitting but there is a large amount corrosion built up all over. I am going to pick up some supplies to clean it up if people think its a barrel.

You will have to clean the barrel or provide closer photos and measurements.

I took my knife and carefully dug some of the dirt out of one side. The inside on the piece measures .50 inch and the length is 23 3/4 inches long. I live in the Florida panhandle and we have tons of different types of history. Could be just a pipe but I have my fingers crossed its something really cool.

is both ends opened?

Yes both are open, I don't know many vintage tools (if its even vintage) but I also dug up a handful of railroad spikes there if its not barrel maybe an old tool or worst case just a pipe.

i would say its just a pipe man

The doorknob isn't old it is off a Kwikset lock set or a Westlock.

I am a gunsmith in ky and in my opinion that's a pipe sorry man, keep hunting though
