Battlefield Whats It ????

I found this around the Culpepper,Va area couple week's ago.It's an iron/lead combo and was found amongst the many bullet's and shell frag's.It's a little bigger than a .58.......any idea's??

Could it possibly be the keeper or attachment frame melted from the back of a belt plate?

Indentations appear to indicate that there were others nestled together.

I have heard of what they call a bar shot,where there was two lead balls on each end of a small bar.
But that would be just a guess.

It seems kinda long to be a sprue, but hard to know.

I don't think that is a sprue,because it looks to be rusted.It looks to be some sort of iron.

But that would be just a guess.

In Civil War Projectiles II By McKee & Mason on page 65 M&M 549--bar shot for single shot pistols.
Also M&M 552 is some type of bar shot.
So they were also shot in pistols and more likely in rifles also.

It looks like a chrome plated zinc ball on a control lever, most likely off a car. Of course chrome is gone.

Maybe it's a caltrop??...not sure of the spelling. they had sharp metal points sticking up when thrown on the ground to make a cavalry horse lame on the battlefield
