I use Coin Care which loosens up the stuff on the coin and a toothpick. Not all turn out this good though.

What a find. Congrats! I have yet to break the 1900s. I love to see you guys finding all this pre 1800s stuff. Gives me hope that its actually still there somewhere.

Wow you weren't joking that coin is a beauty! I can't believe how nice it cleaned up! What kind of conditions did you find that in and what method did you use to clean it? I found one recently with a wonderful obverse and a toasted reverse. The thing had the nicest patina I've ever found on a copper and then it flaked off to reveal a coin that was still nice beneath it. With those coins even one side that is nice is a major score in my mind! The CT coppers are my favorite! That will probably change if I can find a Mass copper. No loyalty! haha!
