There are all kinds of used machines in that range too. Some were fairly high-end machines a few years ago. What type of detecting are you planning to do? Water? Land? Coins? Nuggets? Relics? More info needed for recommendations.

I bought my explorer xs for $400. On ebay you'll see them in that price range often. Imo the best deal in metaldetecting.

Get on eBay like someone else said, u can find a used highend one that will out perform hte lower end new machines.
