The best part of this hobby is the people. The best times in my year are spent with these gentlemen of integrity. I managed to get to the NY/NJ area twice this year. I can’t thank my hosts enough. Here are some pics of Tnetters Scrappy, EastCoastHunter21, Bartek, Treblehunter, Kurtstuben, Loco-Digger, P@tch, Triple555nickel, Mangum & Smittyman.
Here are a few of the non-coin items that I found this year. I am basically a coin shooter, but find all sorts of stuff in the process.
I dug my first CW bullet. A fired .577 Enfield with a wooden plug in it.
I found this engraved sterling napkin ring. Circa 1900.
This was ID’d as a cane top. Hand engraved silver with lead holding an iron fastener.
I found a piece of gold, only my third ever.
While removing dirt from a hole, my first clay marble appeared.
I got a powder flask mechanism. Here is a pic from the internet of a flask.
Here are some flat buttons and musket balls.
Here is a pic of the 21 silver items that I found this year. Shiny! One of my favorites is the charm bracelet.
This is my fourth year MDing. I found 86 silver coins this year, here is the count.
Washington: 14
Mercury: 25
Roosevelt: 27
War Nickel: 8
Barber dime: 3
SLQ: 2
Walking half dollar: 4
Barber half dollar: 1
Spanish real: 1
Capped bust half dime: 1
I also found these coins
Shield Nickel: 1
Half Cent: 1
IHC: 8
Buffalo: 5
KG3: 3
LC: 1
Two Cent: 1
Here are the best silver coins I dug this year. These are what I tell myself I will find, and once in a great while it happens.
My first Spanish real coin is folded in half. But still Spanish! Thanks BOBs.
This is the best coin I ever found, 1831 half dime. Thanks Bradley!
My oldest US coin, 1800 DB half cent. Thanks again Bradley.
Here is a nice 2 Cent piece.
OK, that’s enough of that. I could go on all evening, but I will spare you.
I enjoy the finds, but the real treasure for me is the people. I have had the opportunity to meet and hang out with some of the best people I’ve ever met. Thanks to all of you.
Thanks for looking, and best of luck in 2018.
