Awesome hunt my friend. I been waiting for you to post some good buttons. 8)

I can only dream of finding those down here. :-\

Now those cannon balls are another story. I never really thought about it, but are they as rare as some of the other unbelievable relics you post? :dontknow: I guess what I'm asking is, how do they compare to some of those beautiful gold gilded military buttons you have?

The only answer I have is ...the same, they're around. They were used as a heat source so turn up at the older places we hunt. They will seem a lot more common than they are by me adding this.... I got home to hear a message from our third partner in the group who rarely gets out anymore. He did a couple very quick hunts and in one hole dug a 12 pounder and 8lb marked with a Broad arrow. Yes, seems like they are everywhere right? Well he only had one 6lb over the last 11 years. (Guess he was do)

Very nice cannon ball. Will you do electrolysis on it? Good hunt and nice buttons as well. Keep us posted if you clean it.

It's raining cannon balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! looks like your party got rained on, that is with cannon balls were those balls shot from a battleship?? do you think that could be a 12 pounder if it had the rusted steel back on it and what era is the site?

Seems pretty bang on for 10lb and I'm not really sure what the site was.... but it's not typical for us. Best guess on the time frame would be late 1780s to 1820.

Yeah Baby !! You got some Great Iron There ~ Buttons aren't bad either :notworthy:

Super Finds
Great Buttons & Shot!
Reminds me of a line from a Bill Murray movie, "I Wanna Party With You Guys" :laughing9:

Nice bunch of buttons. Congrats on the ball.

Well done IP. :icon_thumleft:
Some great looking buttons there.

WTG Iron patch nice history right there . Congrats Rob.

Thats a great haul of relics, especially considering how many years you guys had to wait before you could hunt it. Love the ball, still looking for my first. Would the ball be from the rev war, or is it 1812ish?
No doubt that a few return trips will uncover some nice silvers.

Hey I went to one of your parties and although I thought it was a great party...it wasn't as good as that one... Is that one of the fields that you mentioned to us?? but wouldn't go because of the lack of backup fields around??
I'll have my own party now and call it I'll cry if I want too...
great finds there buddy!!

Would fit the 1812 time frame if you consider most of the finds. But most, if not all of our cannon balls are dug at old home sites so that time frame was well after the fact of their intended use, so I think they could easily date to the Rev War period. Two buttons in IH's post date to the 1770/80s which doesn't seem real far from the 1790s, but if you know Rev War and 1812 buttons you know it is... meaning if the buttons were there so could Rev War period cannon balls.

IP, Sorry to jump in late, but this thread gained momentum FAST! :D Super bunch of finds from you and IH!! A real dream hunt 4 sure!! Congrats!

I know I said that about a site, can't think of which, but definitely wasn't that one. That being said, that place did enter my mind those mornings we were doing the brainstorming and I had to go deep into my reserve research for ideas. Even having it go through my mind again after so many years of it not happening it still wasn't a place at the top of my list because I didn't even remember what reference I used to make me want to go there, and thought there was a very low chance of actually getting on the fields. We were literally within 5 miles purely from striking out, and that's when it hit me to drive by and see what was up. What you might be thinking of is the site where we have to go talk to the farmer, then backtrack into town to find the owner. That has been about 4-5 years we have been waiting to do that, and now I'm thinking there could be another great site there because it's the logical early settlement spot for the area. I think we're heading West Thursday or Friday so might have to consider that.
