Some Bicent half dollars with an S mink Mark are 40% silver, much like the 65-70 half dollars. Not all, but some.

1976S (CuNi Proof) Mintage: 7,059,099
1976S (silver clad @ 40% business strike) Mintage: 11,000,000
1976S (silver clad @ 40% proof) Mintage: 4,000,000

Drop a 40%'er on a hard surface, like a kitchen counter. Listen to the pitch. Now drop the Bi-cen and see if it sounds the same.

Looks like you have a silver clad proof. I have two 76S Clad proofs from CRHing. The rims on these are about 98% copper. You can't mistake it.

I have a 1970 D half that has edges just like those in your picture. It's 40%. The best way to know for sure is to weigh the coin.

Looks like a 40% silver Rim to me. I've found three of 'em so far, all out of a two box order a few months ago

thanks guys...my weighing scale arrived yesterday contrary to what I expected and this coin weighed 11.7 grams against the clad bicentennial of only 11.3 grams..

i'm confused though as I was playing with the scale..I have a 1974 half which I kept for a while since it sounded like silver so I kept it and now when I weighed it, its also 11.7 grams..other 1974 weighed 11.3 grams..:dontknow:

It's is ALL about the edge. If its white/black you have silver. If their is any copper/gold/silver/black, then it's clad.

Give us a pic of the 1974 edge.

Also, the sound test. you need to get familiar with that. balance it on your finger tip, and tap the edge with another coin. Test on known clad, and know silver - then do it to your mystery coins. This is science 101.
