We call em Night Hawks as well,in Nevada its very common to see em,spent many a night watching em "zoom",if ya have never seen,or heard one do this, its something else!!!Only second to the sound of the Loon,on my favorite bird sound list!

I see there are another kind....I dont know that I have seen the kind you speak of #9?

There are a lot of animals that exist but seldom seen, here we have Ringtail Cats, spotted skunks, etc. difference is....they ocassionaly are hit by cars.I am waiting for a wild Black Panther to be hit,or shot :icon_thumright:

The Common Nighthawk(Chordeiles minor) and Whip-poor-wil(Caprimulgus vociferus)l are in the same group but they are different.

Questions..

How far away was it and time of day that you saw it?
What color was it?
Where, or what area did you see it?

Best at ya!

They dont have a breeding season,so I am not sure why they mentioned Spring?I wont deny that lions are in States that are denying they are there....why I dont know?

hi number9 it was around non or so really sunny and was in a feild near a river,it was 75 yards away and i have great eyesight and i saw this big almost orange long tailed cat walking down a tree line.the thing was as big or bigger than me.ive seen bobcats coyotes big ole farm cats, but this was a mountain loin for sure im 46 years old and was not smoking anything there here in middle tn i assure you

....three lions ran across the road in front of me this morning on my way to work.Likely Female and two adolescent cubs

oh ya i have a friend that seen one sitting on top of a big round hay bail in in a field too,i think they are eating the huge population of wild turkeys round here too.im looking for them now but armed with a camera now i was told you cant shoot them

hey kuger they finally said that they just pass thru and not breeding as in staying around for awhile the day after seeing it it was on fox news about them covering it up.i think a friend of mine had something to do with the media.

Here is an animal that most people will never see...
But, you know it's real.. in the South you can hear it on warm nights.
And it's been in many song lyrics!

It is the Whip-poor-will.

They sound like this...

ive seen a few around here in wv

No doubt about the regular looking mountain lion... that was the kind I helped bury on Signal Mountain about three years ago.
I'm still hoping to touch a black one.. and I know they are here!
