Hello Tnet friends, first of all...Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas out there! All last week I was itching to get out but didn’t have a decent place in mind, but that changed when my diggin friend Randy called Saturday morning, as he had done his homework, locating a site that showed a house on the 1875 map. Permission secured, we ventured out. Well short of the 500 yards we needed to walk to get to the site, we started getting tones, and were finding mostly old bullets. Only 20 minutes in, I dug a Largie (no date yet) and Randy upped the game, digging two. Weird spot-3 Largies, no other coins. Headed to the house site and it wasn’t hard to find... brick, pottery, colored glass, and lots of iron. We dug a few wheaties, bunches of buttons, axe and Randy popped his third Largie, a beautiful 1853. Then he dug a large, intact crotal bell, complete with dinger. Today: we get an early start as heavy rain is on the forecast. The same site started getting stingey, only giving up some wheats and another complete crotal bell. Taking a lunch break, Randy brought the 1875 map up and spotted a house site in the adjacent field. Off we go and again-boom; glass, brick, pottery.. lots of buttons came out before my neighbor John popped a sharp 1850 Largie.. and then another, an 1831. Randy snagged a cool token and then I got that sharp, loud 90, 91 signal. I could tell it was shallow and found it with my Carrot. Picking at the dirt revealed a BIG, shiny rim. I called the guys over and proceeded to carefully pop it out. Coveted in dirt, I didn’t think it was a coin...no reeded edge. Then Randy reminded me that Capped Bust had no edge reeding. Spritzed it off and saw the eagle and the 50C. The edge was stamped with “half dollar”, and beautiful Lady Liberty with her cap on. Still dirty and I’m not touching it. So sorry for the rambling... but I love this hobby, and I really love finding things like this. To be honest, this coin isn’t even on my bucket list, that’s how unattainable I thought it was and I thought I’d find a gold coin before finding one of these. Thanks so much for looking... Ddf Scotty.

Thanks Silver Tree Chaser... Epic? Absolutely! Loving that early US silver... been primarily a field hunter the last couple years, and the good thing that when we dig trash, it’s old trash lol... quality over quantity. Ddf.

Great old coin shooting! :occasion14:

Thx Prof!! Was glad I pulled that unit, it was the last 15 minutes of the hunt as the clouds of doom were looming and the wind was picking up. I can’t tell you if that was my last plug of the day as I was in shock after that. Ddf.
