Big Waves Vacation... Enjoy the ride!

What a day!!! 800 miles later, we are in Rapid City, SD. We passed on the Wisconsin Dells, chose to put some miles on the day, until I couldn't resist the Corn Palace in Mitchell SD.

The paper doll is Flat Stanley, on the road trip with us, as a part of my nieces' first grade class project. From there, we continued west till I gladly paid $15 to enter the Badlands National Park... Wow! Gods Glory in full display. It was cold and rainy, which kept the crowds away, had the park to ourselves it seemed.image.webpimage.webpimage.webp
The highlight at the end, we turned a corner, and we saw a family of Big Horn Sheep, including 3 new babies.... Cutest things ever.

A big day planned for tomorrow, will try to see as much as we can.... Stay tuned!

Sorry for the rotated pics....

yeah! stand up next time

Congratz on 10 years! Have a good time!

Agreed, you simply can't pass up the corn palace, just so you can get there and say "Why?" I have done that road trip to the Black Hills a half dozen times, and we still stop at the palace. Of course, there isn't a whole lot else to see before you get to it which does increase its appeal.

But you are heading into some stunningly beautiful county, enjoy the trip.

Still here in SD, we missed out on Wall Drug yesterday, so backtracked 60 miles, was amazed and amused by the town of Wall, and all it had to offer. From there, we were struck by the incredible images of the Black Hills...

From there, drove the Custer State Park loop, the buffalo were grazing with their young, the Begging Burros were amusing, and later on, the Needles Highway led us to incredible views.

Finished the day at Crazy Horse Memorial....Wow!

Thanks for looking....tomorrow, on the road again, tune in to see where...

Thanks, I only get out there occasionally to carve more on it.

if you have time, head to Deadwood for small town casino life and a very interesting cemetery where old time outlaws and heros were buried.

We are at the Buffalo Bar in W Yellowstone, after another long day... Didn't have time to waste, as the trip to Devils Tower was a 2 hour ordeal..would love to add a pic not sideways, but....

From there through Wyoming, to our Campsite... Can't wait for tomorrow, hope to have pics of treasures, gifts from our National Park.

Awesome! Looks like you two are having a ton of fun!

I love bison, I would like to have a ranch full of them someday

Thanks for taking us along for the ride Dave. You're doing what I want to do, taking a cross country road trip. I want to incorporate the Grand Canyon in mine though it's getting hard for the wife to be able to rough it anymore, not to mention a decent hike into the back country. I can't get rid of her though, we've been together for too long, lol. I took her out on her birthday last year and wouldn't you know it, she found her way home. :laughing7:

Next year try going to the Diamond State park in Ark. Tell her your looking for a diamond for her. They let you dig for them there. I always wanted to stop there for a day, but haven't made it yet.

Dave, Devils tower is great. Did you see the thousands of Gophers in the fields?

Update... Ugh!
Left the Grand Tetons early Sunday, a beautiful ride through the old pioneer towns of Wyoming, drooling over the possibilities of great detecting, but our reservation at a campground in Scottsbluff, NE kept me on task...what a cold and nasty nite we had...raining, windy, about 40 degrees....miserable! To make matters worse, the tent pretty much broke/fell apart/exploded...now what? Bit the bullet on a new tent at KMart, talk about a blue light special!!! Got a 11X8 super tent for $99 bucks! Same one at Cabellas and Eagle Outfitters for $400...
So this morning, stopped at Chimney Rock, in Nebraska, and followed the Oregon Trail, heading east.

So, here we are now, just north of Kansas City, MO, in a hotel room,:BangHead:Wifey convinced me to not go through the weather again, just as bad again here tonight... Looking forward to another long ride tomorrow, we haven't decided where to stop, but will be able to spend a couple days there, got to get my beep on...not much luck detecting this week, total of $2 in change.
Thanks for keeping an eye on our travels, till next time....
