Hi ya gang! Got to go hunt the soccer complex in the next town over again today and despite the heat and the mind melting humidity I did pretty well. I confined my hunt to the end of the complex that I didn't get to hunt the last time out, it's a long way from the concession stand and little or no shade to be found anywhere. One lone ash tree that's seen better days sits halfway between the area I hunted today and the concession stand, it's on the edge of the parking area for this end. Naturally that's where I began my search today. I was halfway around the base of the tree, making a pretty big circle, oh about three feet from the base of the tree making a nine or ten foot circumference, when I got another of the half dozen nickle signals. Three of which had been pull tabs, two were can confetti and only one was a nickle.. I almost let this one go, but I dug it anyway. I'm glad I did! Not finding any resistance with my probe I was forced to dig a plug and when I pulled it out, out popped this little ring. I was just about to do the chicken dance when I noticed that the ring had some scaling and "rust"? Oh well.. so it's not silver.. Can't have everything I suppose. But I was happy all the same.
I was happier still when as my hunt progressed down the sidelines between too pitches, that I kept hitting quarter after quarter, with some dimes and lots of pennies thrown in. All told I found $6.50 in clad. I also found several hair clasps, guess the demanding sport of soccer tends to undo the hair restraints or something. ?? <grin>
I found a mechanical pencil (Bic), a watch battery (that's still good) I found one lone SILVER earring
HEY I did find some bling! Lots of pull tabs of course, a key, a lead fishing sinker with line still attached.. Odd.. and no water for MILES around. <shrug>
At the edge of one Pitch I got a strong signal.. my Prizm IV couldn't determine or settle on a range though.. kept hopping back and forth from penny to 50 cent piece. And right on the surface too! But I was looking at the surface and there was nothing there. Instead, using my probe I found it just under the roots of the grass, something BIG! I almost left it thinking it was a can, have had that happen many times as well. I *DID* dig it though, or rather made a slit along the side of the object and popped it out of the roots.
Some sort of medallion, possibly a scholastic award of some kind. <shrug> It's hard to see in the pic, but there are the letters " P E " stamped or inscribed on the reverse.
After about an hour and a half in the broiling sun, I finished skirting the last pitch on that end of the complex and was ready to call it a day. I was dying out there! My shirt was soaked, my glasses were blurry from the sweat pooling up on the backside of my lenses and drying to make an opaque fog, and I could have spit cotton balls my mouth was so dry. So, I headed back to my truck. Not one to pass up prime real estate to search, I swept one side of the parking area (grass and gravel) on my way back to the truck. Here a quarter, there a dime, her a penny, penny, penny, dime, quarter, dime, police car, dime, penny.. WHAT? <grin> I found another matchbox toy car, about two inches down in the dirt. One of my last finds for the day was about ten yards from where I had parked. It was just under the pushed over blades of grass. My detector went nuts again, but I can understand why.
Hematite and magnets.. ZING! Not really chicken dance'able bling, but a nice end to a fairly fruitful hunt. I was VERY glad to get back to my truck and pop open the cooler for a jug of water. Ice cold!, and the jug of lemonade my wife made was nice too. It's a wonder I didn't have a heat stroke out there today, what with all the ups and downs to dig targets and getting excited so many times. <grin> I'm going to have to go back and hunt that complex many more times. I've only scratched the surface so to speak. I've not even tried to grid search the actual game pitches yet, just he sidelines and paths to and from the bathrooms and concession stand. And there's LOTS of Parking area yet to search. I LOVE Those grass and gravel parking lots. Drive on the gravel and park in the grass. Sure, there's lots of trash to be found, but there's lots of goodies too.
Well here's the total of todays finds, makes for some pretty pictures huh?
You got to love a hobby that actually pays you to enjoy! <smile>
Happy Hunting all!
