I've been doing some metal detecting on a friends property adjacent to a major waterway.
Just loved seeing this perfect bone pin pop up.

Nice one! Could be part of a composite piece, like a leister tip, but I think this size might have been used as a gorge.

Do you think some of these were used as ornamentation? Say..through the nose or ear?
I don't see a connection point for cord and these guys used nets heavily.
 
The idea of composite piece is interesting... there are two small cuts that almost look like score marks on one side towards the distal end.

When metal detecting large areas, do you usually grid the whole area first, mark promising repeatable signals, and then come back to work them later?
