Boston Military badge?

It says Boston Founded 1630. The back piece with the threads looks like it could have been added later. I was hoping a War of 1812 or Civil war but we're they using threads back then?

With a little more cleaning, the word under "Boston" may be ID-ed.

I'd say the back is consistent with what would be expected, so likely not real old and probably will be fairly easy to ID. Even if it's late 18s or early 19s it looks great.

I'd say that's a good guess. I was seeing it RSC, but B makes way more sense.

All I would do is gently scrape and brush the dirt out. Toothpick and tooth brush cleaning it dry is what I would do. It's in nice dug condition and there's enough to ID as is. Will just take a little time maybe.

Good advise. I think the lettering is part of the Boston seal and might be Latin.

Ok so it has the Boston City Seal on it which was agreed on in 1822 so it's no older than that. I'm thinking a badge for a Boston City worker.

Great badge! I agree with Ben that I think it is from a Boston School Cadet uniform. Here are a few others like it that sold. The third link unfortunately does not have a photo. It describes the badge: "It’s vintage 1940’s, cloth top, it has a gold Badge that has the City of Boston Seal and the initials BSC" and hat it is on having buttons: " It has gold buttons on both sides that have the initials BCS ? "

This hat may be an earlier style - it has BCS embroidery and not the badge - but the way the buttons are placed sounds similar to the Worthpoint listing.
