This piece is 1 1/2 inches long.
It used to be attached to something on the wide end.
Notice the tapering on the side photo.

FANTASTIC ID!

:hello2:

We've seen these posted on CW relic websites before, and none of them were ID'ed. Folks generally knew that it went on a strap, but nobody had a clue as to exactly what it went on.

Thank you, everyone.

Regards,

Buckles

Ironspike, now you must put your picture finding skills to work and find a picture of that little shield and u thingy. That gizmo is the iconic "what is it" if there ever was one. In fact I think we should pool our resources and offer a prize to the identifyer.

If you're talking about that thread of mine (brass two-holed thingy with U-shaped piece), it was solved.

5 minutes have passed....

I found the link..... I read the source....."strap guide that PROBABLY went on a harness"??? Are you kidding? Man we've been there done that a few times over and still we've never seen an example in use. I looked up "strap guide". You know what I found? Zilch! Nadda! Weren't you the guy who said "don't call those things harness shields because you googled 'harness shield and nothing came up"?
It is not solved. :D

It was found by a UK detectorist (Silver Searcher, I believe) in a UK finds database which is run by the archaeological community. :)

Those other thingys are harness bosses. Darn it. LOL.

You proberbly have'nt seen a example in use...because as I said in BB's post, Circa 18th-19th Century,(1700-1800) good luck in finding one from that period still in use ::) it proberbly now has been modified several times :read2:

and I didn't say it was solved the poster did :-\ and you should except that ???
