Got back to a site in very shallow H2O the other day and scored a few keepers. My best was this Brit Rev War button of the 3rd Foot Guards regt. It is the enlisted mans variety and was pretty corroded as are most pewter buttons of this period. I had my friend tumble this button and clean it up to give it eye appeal.
Also found two toasted coppers, one of wich is a KGII.
The half reale rounded out the hunt. Thanks for looking HH!

Real nice one the silver don't hurt your feelings much I bet. Look like you have some other nice buttons too.

Very nice finds, love the reale, those coins are one of my favorites looks wise.:icon_thumleft:

Any Rev war button is a great day, and Spanish silver ain't bad either.

Nice group of water finds Keith! You have been doing pretty good on the Rev War buttons lately.

I think the button looks great :icon_thumleft:

Nice button, but I don't think its Pewter,

Nice tombac? Either way, a fantastic handfull of finds!

Nice button, but I don't think its Pewter,

Maybe there's different grades of pewter, but that's what it is considered. Quite a few are found on the Thames and come out looking that grey, and quite often a brown tone. (different composition maybe) You're probably like me, that almost every pewter button you have found has oxidized white. I think I have only dug one Rev War one that showed some grey and it came from a couple feet deep where it wasn't as exposed. I have seen those same 3rd Guards buttons white and frail.

Great finds Keith! I found a 14th Regiment of Foot a few months back on a former English island, but 1800s, not as old as yours! Best, Erik

Thanks for the comments and replies guys. The Troiani book calls it pewter. Keep in mind that there can be a huge difference in the appearance of a land recovered pewter versus a water found pewter...especially fresh water.
