British 71st Officer's button

I found this a couple of weeks ago, a 71st Highland Officer's button. I found it while searching a colonial spot that we have been hunting for a couple of years now. It's not what I was looking for but I will take it.

Very nice button you found there…I'd be doing lots more searching there…congrats

Thanks for the kind comments guys. The British camped about 3 miles from where the button came from. That place was hunted out years ago. The local records stated that they also raided the landowner's brother's place. I checked land deeds and found out that his brother owned the property (where the button was found) in 1781. Here is a pic after cleaning soap and water

Such a cool piece of history. Is there more area to search at this site? I'd be hammering that spot

Looks great!

That is an absolutely phenomenal button find! Well done on the cleaning. That is just the right amount--not over the line.

One of the best buttons I've seen on here in a while. Congrats!

beautiful button! Congrats! I found one similar last year IMG_2388.webp

I have a feeling if you took a poll it would likely be pretty split to leave as is, or make it shine.

You know me, I tend to only use soapy water, but some lemon juice on buttons as sound as that is worth it, I think.

Very nice! Is that silver, silver plate, or tombac? Looks to be in very good condition for 200+ year old dug brass.

They are silver plated copper-alloy back.

Wow! Fantastic button! There is some great history here in NC!

That's a great looking button.

A very nice button. Rev war buttons are tough to dig and that one is killer.
