I hit one of my beaten down spots the other day, trying to sniff out something in the iron with the X-5. The ground was rock hard, and it's rocky.... a wonderful combination. I'm usually pretty good at retrieving my targets carefully, but I was in thrash mode trying to get through the concrete-style dirt and I think I dinged the button.

If anyone could ID the button for me, I'd appreciate it. I think it's 1xx Regiment of foot....

Also found an old copper. KG III, wearing armour. I can't see the date, but I believe it's a 1775 counterfeit.

August hasn't been too kind.

Military Button... destruction.

KG III Counterfeit? It's toast too...

Pro Patria CDN Military Collar Badge... fairly modern.

Happy hunting!

Dinged a Barber dime a while back: don't you hate that feeling?

Yeah that would suck...once i was digging out a musket ball and scraped a french lead seal that I didn't know was in the same hole... Hope you get some info on that button... I would say August was still pretty generous...

Still beats my best find of the day, a Barber Dime. The 1812 Belt plate that I found a few years back ended up with a pretty deep gouge from my shovel.
The copper tops off the day!!

Nice finds, VPR

Speaking of a lead seal, Patriot... I also found one of those nearby. I'll clean it up and post a pic. You'll laugh at the letters it's stamped with... :)

Edit for pics:

BS!

Yeah a bit of a bummer, but don't be too hard on yourself, in tens of thousands of holes it IS going to happen at some time or another. I sure know what you mean about hard, rocky ground. I'm a little amazed I got that cartwheel out of the ground yesterday without a scratch,Pin pointer sure helps. While digging one hole there were some grinding sounds, Romeo said "I sure hope that's a rock".

Cool seal too, and even if not-so-old I like the badge.

oh Gio, that hurts.. you can tell people the soldier was wearing the button when a enemy tried to stab him with a bayonet... and the button saved his life.

Yes, it's bound to happen. I guess that's the risk we take when digging fragile items out of the ground. A couple of years ago I dug the most perfect 1913 Canadian dime. It looked like it was minted yesterday, and was super clean. Unfortunately Edward was also wearing several gouges right across his shoulders. Made me shudder lol. At least it was the more common "small leaves" variety.

That button is a nice find regardless!

Don't feel too bad...

Never get tired of this major screw-up, as I recall, I made a high pitch scream when I read the date.
But hey, out here we never get anything that old or cool, so killer finds nonetheless!
Carl
